This Is The Reason Behind Nintendo Switch 2's Delay To March 2025, Report Says

Zinger Key Points
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 won't launch until March 2025, prioritizing initial stock and popular software, aiming to prevent scalping issues.
  • Despite a slight sales decline, the Switch remains one of the bestselling consoles, with a large user base.

A recent report indicated the release of Nintendo ADR's NTDOY Nintendo Switch 2 is not expected until March 2025, at the earliest.

"Many in the industry expected it to be released in 2024, but Nintendo prioritized securing initial stock of successor machines and the lineup of popular software at the time of release, including measures to prevent resale," Japanese publication Nikkei said.

It's worth remembering that scalpers were a problem that plagued the initial launch of the Switch in March 2017.

Moreover, the report confirmed much of the speculation circulating about the successor to the popular Nintendo Switch, noting it would likely feature similar hybrid functionality but with a larger screen.

Nikkei also assured the upcoming console would be able to handle games that feature higher-definition image quality. The report also emphasized March 2025 was the earliest feasible release date, hinting that it might not align with Nintendo's next financial year.

This delay could come as a surprise given the mounting pressure on Nintendo to unveil the successor to the nearly seven-year-old Switch.

Despite a slight decline in sales, Nintendo reported steady performance for the Switch, with 13.74 million units sold in the first nine months of the financial year.

The console's total sales have reached 139.36 million units, making it one of the bestselling consoles of all time, trailing only the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2. Moreover, the Switch continued to attract a large user base, with 122 million recorded players during the 2023 calendar year.
