Apple Considers Hulu Bid Just Two Days After Benzinga Recommendation?

Google GOOG isn't the only company interested in taking control of the nation's leading TV streaming service. On July 20, I shared my thoughts on how Apple AAPL could spend the billions of dollars it had earned and retained over the past few years. One of my recommendations – or, perhaps more fittingly, predictions – was that the Mac maker should consider a bid for Hulu. “Hulu could give Apple immediate access to a number of impressive opportunities: unprecedented licensing agreements for TV streams, rapidly growing ad revenue, and a small-but-growing number of Hulu Plus subscribers,” I wrote. Now, just two days later, Benzinga has learned that Apple is taking a serious look at Hulu as a possible acquisition. Is this one great big coincidence? Probably. If Apple is truly interested in Hulu, it is highly unlikely that the company's interest was sparked this week. Chances are Apple became interested in Hulu the moment it learned that it was up for sale – or, if nothing else, the moment Google publicly expressed its Hulu love by launching Cosmic Panda. Or maybe, just maybe, Apple shares my fear of a world in which Google is the one that buys Hulu. Needless to say, the next few months ought to be very interesting. Follow me @LouisBedigian
