On Tuesday, Grasshopper Staffing opened its doors to those looking for a position in the ever-expanding cannabis industry.
The company, based in Colorado, says it is hoping to expand its operations into other states as legalization spreads across the country.
To mark its grand opening, Grasshopper held a hiring event in which it boasted between 50 to 100 positions in Colorado’s pot industry.
Rising Need For Workers
Grasshopper said that Colorado has seen an increased need for ‘trimmers,' or people who are responsible for clipping leaves from marijuana plants’ buds.
There has also been rising demand for growers and ‘bud tenders’ who have some experience behind them.
Beyond Just Job Placement
The new company says that placing people in weed-related jobs is only the beginning. Grasshopper also helps applicants get licensed so they are eligible to work in the marijuana industry.
The job-search site provides useful information about how to become a legal marijuana worker and directs applicants to the relative websites in order to complete their paperwork.
Grasshopper is also hoping to fill a banking void for companies. Most banks are uneasy about opening business accounts for marijuana-based companies and for that reason, most operate on a cash-only basis, making payroll a challenge.
Grasshopper says it hopes to eventually manage companies’ payrolls using paper checks and automatic deposits.
