DigiTimes, citing Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, noted that all listed manufacturers combined for a total spend of NT$575.5 billion ($17.788 billion) on R&D throughout 2015, marking a 6 percent increase over 2014's spending levels.
Taiwan Semiconductor spent NT$65.5 billion ($2.025 billion) in R&D spend in 2015, accounting for 7.8 percent of total revenue. Foxconn Electronics spent NT$52.5 billion ($1.623 billion) which accounted for 1.2 percent of its total revenue.
DigiTimes added that Taiwan Semiconductor also ranked number 1 in terms of largest fixed asset investments in 2015 at NT$257.5 billion ($7.96 billion).
Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor were trading lower by 0.43 percent shortly after Monday's opening bell.
