UpToDate® Unveils App for Microsoft Windows 8 Platform

Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that UpToDate, part of Wolters Kluwer Health, unveiled an UpToDate App for the new Windows 8 platform. As a featured app, UpToDate's leading evidence-based clinical decision support system is now even more widely available to clinicians focused on improving patient care.

According to a recent report by market research firm IDC, “Worldwide Windows Client Operating Environment: 2011-2015 Forecast,” the Windows platform is growing across both consumer and commercial segments. By offering a featured UpToDate app on Windows 8, clinicians can download the app directly from the Windows store onto their Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, including the new Microsoft Surface tablet. All UpToDate apps are optimized for tablet access, providing subscribers with the latest evidence-based information and graded recommendations to diagnose and treat patients.

The adoption of mobile applications among clinicians is on the rise. Physicians in over 60 countries are currently using an UpToDate mobile application, accounting for 25 percent of individual usage in the past year alone. This is driven in part by the popularity of mobile apps among medical students, as 40 percent of trainee individual usage is delivered via an UpToDate mobile application. The UpToDate app for Windows 8 comes on the heels of favorable reviews for both its iPhone and Android mobile apps.
