SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

On October 6th San Diegans got down and dirty at the Del Mar Mud Run. The event was a huge success with over 7,500 participants in the 5k run at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and an additional 3,000 spectators. The run was put on by VAVi Sport and Social Club and was presented by Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap. The event raised an initial $7,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation's Operation Rebound and Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps contributed an additional $10,000!

“Dr. Bronner's always loves to give back to the community. It's part of our corporate ethos to support great organizations and initiatives with our brand,” said Dr. Bronner's partnership Coordinator Abner Nevarez.

The Del Mar Mud Run presented by Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap is known as the World's Most Fun Mud Run. Participants experienced a 5k course of action-packed fun with more obstacles per mile than any other mud run. Some of this year's obstacles included several themed mud pits, monkey bars, rope swings, rope bridges and the crowd favorite mud slide. After the race, runners could get squeaky clean with Dr. Bronner's Wild Western Wash Down. Runners rinsed off with their powerful warm-water shower systems and then get minty fresh with an interblastive foam experience.

The official beneficiary partner for the 2012 event was the Challenged Athletes Foundation's Operation Rebound program. This is the premier sports and fitness program for American military personnel, veterans and first responders with permanent physical disabilities. Operation Rebound allows those who have become injured in the line of service the opportunity to go from the frontline to the finish line by providing adaptive sports equipment, competition expenses, coaching and mentoring resources to athletes like local Marine, Dan Reilly. Dan is a double amputee and lost both his legs when he stepped on a landmine in the Middle East. Dan was one of several Challenged Athletes who participated this year.

“The Challenged Athletes Foundation is clearly a rocking organization and we wanted to throw down some dough too in appreciation,” said Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap president David Bronner.

In addition to the crazy obstacles and state of the art shower systems, there was a ton of activities to keep runners and spectators occupied throughout the day including:

-- Spectator viewing at the start and finish line

-- A vendor village of over 30 brands and companies selling and sampling products

-- A beer garden with first beer free for runners

-- DJ's at the start line and infield

-- Multiple photo opps

-- Food and beverage vendors

-- Costume contests

-- Free T-shirts for participants

-- Awards for top finishers
