Thursday, November 1

Governor General's Round Table on Youth Engagement

His Excellency will host a round table on youth engagement with 65 youth from the Toronto area. Organized in partnership with United Way Toronto, this one-day discussion will focus on defining meaningful youth involvement, identifying challenges faced by youth and how to address them, as well as finding new innovating ways and opportunities to better assist them in their endeavours. At 1:30 p.m., Their Excellencies will visit the participants. The Governor General will talk to them about the importance of building a smarter and more caring community, and hear their views and ideas on the three themes of the discussion during their break-out sessions.

Their Excellencies will attend the fourth annual True Patriot Love Tribute Dinner, which honours and supports members of the Canadian Forces and their families. As commander-in-chief, The Governor General will be the guest of honour, and as commander-in-chief of Canada, he will address Canadian Forces members and their families, and distinguished guests.

True Patriot Love is a national foundation that supports and honours members of the Canadian military and their families. Opening of 'Lab of the Future' at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

Their Excellencies will attend the official opening a 150 000-square-foot medical research space at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This will be the largest and only centre of its kind in Canada. Following the inauguration, Their Excellencies will visit several labs, such as the Neurointervention Centre, where they will see how research is helping patients recover from strokes and understand how the brain works when it must do competing tasks.

The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is an internationally recognized leader in research and education and one of Canada's premier academic health sciences centres. It specializes in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies as well as critically ill newborns and adults, and offers specialized rehabilitation, treatment and prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological and psychiatric disorders, orthopaedic and arthritic conditions, and traumatic injuries.
