NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Association of Corporate Directors held its 2012 NACD Directorship 100 Forum this week. Under the theme of "Reinvigorating America," the NACD Directorship 100 Forum convened leading directors, governance advocates, and key boardroom influencers and advisors to discuss strategies and share ideas to build long-term, sustainable enterprises.

This unique director education event was capped with an evening gala dinner celebration to recognize and honor select corporate directors and governance experts who have demonstrated significant leadership and accomplishment in the boardroom, companies and communities. A complete list of honorees can be found at www.NACDonline.org/2012-D100-Honorees.

The program featured several noted speakers, including David Walker, former Comptroller General of the United States and Founder and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative. Presenting the keynote address entitled "A Roadmap for the Future," Walker discussed what it will take to get America's fiscal house in order, in addition to the need for directors to lead by example in fostering responsible economic practices.

"This event was a prime opportunity for corporate directors to learn from boardroom leaders and sharpen their understanding of today's key issues," said Kenneth Daly, president and CEO of NACD. "It is critical that all directors and boardroom advisors demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning with their peers and governance experts."

During the event, attendees also heard several panel discussions, including one on Revitalizing America with:

  • Steven Berkenfeld, Managing Director, Investment Banking Division, Barclays Capital;
  • Jenne K. Britell, Chairman, United Rentals; Director, Crown Holdings, Quest Diagnostics, U.S. Russia Investment Fund; Managing Director, Brock Capital;
  • Ellen J. Kullman, Chairman and CEO, E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company;
  • James D. Robinson, III, Presiding Director, The Coca-Cola Company.

Takeaways from the panel discussion included the actions corporate leaders can take to address the economic needs of the nation, such as focusing on advancing economic sustainability. Panelists also discussed the importance of promoting investments in infrastructure and education to ensure future nationwide growth.
