MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The philanthropic foundation of Simply Healthcare Plans and Amerigroup Florida's parent company has launched several support efforts to help Floridians impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The foundation is working with disaster relief partners, American Red Cross, AmeriCares and Portlight Strategies to ensure impacted Floridians have access to life-saving medication, basic necessities and health care services.

Through a $75,000 grant, the foundation has engaged partner organization, AmeriCares, an emergency response and global health organization, to help Floridians in crisis. Funding has supported the deployment of AmeriCares emergency response teams who are delivering medicine and relief supplies to impacted residents. AmeriCares is also assisting local clinics to address immediate health concerns and ensuring people have access to care. Their Central Florida warehouse is stocked with medicine and medical supplies, including insulin and tetanus vaccine, and they are prepared to distribute supplies to areas in need.

The foundation has also partnered with the American Red Cross to enable extra support programs in impacted areas. Local Red Cross personnel and shelters in impacted areas are currently providing meals, relief supplies and other assistance to thousands of Floridians and first responders. The Red Cross has also prepositioned more than 30 trailer loads of sheltering supplies, ready-to-eat meals as well as clean-up and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items along Florida's East Coast. These efforts are supported with foundation funding made to the American Red Cross's Annual Disaster Giving Program.

Another foundation grant is supporting efforts launched by Portlight Strategies. Portlight Strategies serves as an information hub during and after natural disasters to help people with disabilities. They connect people with resources and assist with immediate needs such as access to durable and consumable medical supplies. Portlight Strategies also works closely with the American Red Cross to ensure shelters meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Additionally, the foundation has pledged to match all donations made by company associates to its employee assistance fund and the American Red Cross at 100 percent through the month of October.
