Hewlett-Packard Close To Acquiring ArcSight For $1.5B

Hewlett-Packard HPQ is close to a deal to acquire security software provider ArcSight ARST for $1.5 billion, according to a report on the Wall Street Journal's Web site. HP recently beat out rival DELL to acquire storage firm 3Par PAR for $2.07 billion. ArcSight makes products that guard computer networks against hackers. ArcSight had $181 million in revenue in its most recent fiscal year and has a market cap of just $1.2 billion. The Journal reported in August that ArcSight has been looking for a suitor. At the time, the paper named IBM IBM, EMC EMC and Oracle ORCL has potential bidders.
