As the vanguard of an organization, a leader very much carves an entity’s corporate culture and can impact for the positive or the negative. But how do you as a leader best pilot? Here at Benzinga, we believe this can be summed up in five "L”s.
1. Leverage
Leverage your experience to teach others. Remember that you were once an entry-level employee and likely relied on mentors.
2. Let
Let them teach you. Be humble enough to gain insight from your team’s talents. Hire people unlike yourself to foster a diverse skill set within your corporation.
3. Listen
Listen, listen, listen. Ideas generate dollars — so cultivate an environment where employees feel confident enough to voice them.
4. Lift
Lift up your employees. Influence them to take risks, embrace challenges and realize their talents.
5. Learn
Learn from your mistakes. Past missteps don’t serve as distractions for good leaders. They serve as milestones. True leaders reflect on what went wrong and strategize about how to effectively improve in the future instead of worrying about the mistake. Moreover, they also admit when they are wrong.
