Thomas Peterffy came to the United States from Hungary in 1965, embarking on a journey to make him the face of technological evolution in finance.

In 1977, after acquiring a seat on the American Stock Exchange and trading as a market maker in equity options, Mr. Peterffy became one of the first to utilize a computerized mathematical model for the continuous valuation of equity option prices.

Five years later, in 1982, Mr. Peterffy built and operated an automated trading system for equity options. By 1983, he had pioneered the development of a tablet computer designed for his employees to use on exchange floors. This innovation began a series of groundbreaking advancements that would revolutionize trading and brokerages.

By 1986, Mr. Peterffy had created and implemented a fully integrated, automated market-making system for stocks, options, and futures, which he successfully expanded globally over the subsequent years. His vision extended to online brokerage services, leading to the formation of Interactive Brokers in 1993.

Mr. Peterffy is widely recognized as a fintech pioneer. He has advanced securities markets, electronic brokerage, and trading.
