Dr. Elizabeth Cawley is the Chief Scientific Officer at Bluestem API Inc., overseeing a diverse research portfolio and digital platform development. She is also adjunct professor at Dalhousie University, the University of Ottawa, and Managing Partner of The Cawley Mughal Group, which consults on mental health initiatives across North America. Dr. Cawley is a scientist, researcher, and mental health expert with a clinical background and a focus on addiction, policy, and technology. Dr. Cawley’s early clinical neuroscience research was dedicated to brain imaging and mental health and included administering controlled substances to human subjects. She has since become an award-winning leader in the fields of mental health governance and e-mental health. Most recently, Elizabeth was awarded the 2023 Canadian Young Professional Award for her work developing Canada’s National Standard for Post-Secondary Student Mental Health and Well-Being (the first of its kind in the world). Dr. Cawley has worked with many large public institutions and private enterprises to develop, implement, and deliver all manner of innovative mental health solutions and products based on the latest evidence and research. She is also a passionate mental health advocate widely sharing her personal journey with mental illness in an effort to reduce stigma and help others. She also serves on several boards, such as Crisis Text Line/Kids Help Phone, and other committees to influence policy and the direction that North America is taking with regards to mental health and well-being.
