Kenji Fujishima

Head of Cultivation

Dr. Greenthumb's

Kenji Fujishima has long been part of the cannabis world, with roots stemming back to the mid 1990’s, as a trusted friend and partner of B Real, legendary hip hop star of Cypress Hill and cannabis advocate. Kenji was introduced to B Real from the Cypress Hill Road Manager, and this began a lifelong friendship that started with the two of them training in martial arts under Kenji’s father, a Japanese Shihan. Kenji was invited to come on tour with Cypress Hill to continue the training and eventually become the Stage Tech Manager for the band. He started cultivating by hiding plants in his backyard and it evolved to popping the first seeds of Bubba Kush in 1997 in B Real’s bathtub and continued with him being responsible for the Cypress Hill lyrics; “ …stinking up the whole neighborhood.” For Kenji, it wasn’t about just getting high, it was about bringing people together, and being able to chill, relax and create; using the plant as a creative tool. He began commercially growing in 2007 under Prop 215, and has continued through the legalization in 2018. Kenji and B Real cofounded Insane Cannabis which is known for it’s proprietary genetics and it remains a steadfast brand as a nod to true cannabis culture in LA. As the cannabis industry has evolved, Kenji role has expanded beyond the cultivation room, by sharing his love and knowledge of the plant to our cultivators across the country as head of cultivation and products. He believes dedication to the plant and true quality control comes from more than just a SOP. “ Every environment is different, growers have to create their own formula for what works with their relationship to the plant, I am just here to give guidance.” That hands-on guidance ensures our consumers that the quality of the plant and what we deliver to consumers is consistently the best smoke.
