Michael Brewer is a Director with 30+ years of experience specializing in audit, taxation, and consulting for commercial and not-for-profit entities. He has extensive experience working with cannabis companies, as well as clients in construction, government contracting, real estate, manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, service organizations, and not-for-profit clients. In previous roles, Michael has also served as the Director of Internal Audit for the second largest food distributor in the U.S., US Foodservice, with annual revenue in excess of $20 billion. He was an integral leader in US Foodservice becoming compliant under the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance rules and assisting the organization in remediating numerous material weaknesses in their internal control system. Michael helped to design, implement and test the key controls of this large, national food service entity. Michael was also a lead manager on the Enron Task Force prosecuting the leadership of Enron after the collapse of Enron. He also has been involved in troubled company turnaround management, debt restructuring, merger & acquisition due diligence and integration, process reengineering, litigation support for contract disputes, and fraudulent activities.
He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Texas and Maryland and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the former Treasurer of Home Builder’s Care Foundation, a 501(3) organization associated with the Maryland Building Industry Association. He is also a prior member of the Leadership Committee of the Baltimore Institute of Internal Auditors. Michael has served as an Education Advisor and Adjunct Instructor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and currently is an Advisor and Mentor to the Georgetown University Venture Lab and Startup Accelerator.
