Bret Scholtes was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Guardion Health Sciences in January of 2021. He is also a member of the Company’s Board of Directors.
Prior to joining Guardion, Mr. Scholtes spent nine years as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Omega Protein Corporation, and he was also a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Omega Protein is a nutritional product company and a leading integrated provider of specialty oils, essential fatty acids and specialty protein products. The Company operates seven manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe with 1,100 employees. The Company was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange until December 2017 when it was acquired by Cooke, Inc.
Prior to becoming CEO, Mr. Scholtes served as Omega Protein’s Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the overall financial management of the company, its financial reporting, and multiple corporate functions focusing on Omega Protein’s financial health. Before joining Omega Protein, Mr. Scholtes spent five years at General Electric. He has also held strategy and corporate development positions at two publically traded companies as well as five years of public accounting experience at Arthur Andersen & Co. and Price Waterhouse.
Mr. Scholtes has served on the Board of Directors for the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement, function food manufacturers and ingredient industries.
Mr. Scholtes holds a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri, and is a certified public accountant.
