Lightning has struck twice in Des Plaines, Illinois. Just three years after a record-breaking Mega Millions jackpot was won in the suburb, another lucky player has claimed a multi-million dollar prize.

What Happened: A single ticket purchased at a Mobil gas station on Golf Road matched all six numbers in Saturday’s Illinois Lottery drawing, netting the winner a sum of $10.4 million.

The winning numbers were 6-9-18-31-39-49, according to a report by NBC Chicago. The lucky ticket was sold at the Mobil station located at 9660 Golf Rd. in Des Plaines. For the gas station owners, the win is a windfall as well. Jinu John, one of the owners, told the Illinois Lottery that they had only taken over the location a month prior.

Why It Matters: The store will receive $104,000, which is 1% of the total jackpot, for selling the winning ticket.

“Our employees are all excited about this win,” John said. “And of course we hope we’ll find out who the lucky winner is.”

The winner has one year from the date of the drawing – Feb. 8 – to claim their prize. John expressed his anticipation about discovering the identity of the fortunate individual. “I don’t know who won,” John said. “But it’s certainly one lucky guy or girl.”

This latest win comes after the 2022 Mega Millions frenzy when a $1.34 billion jackpot was won with a ticket sold at a Speedway gas station, also in Des Plaines. The suburb has clearly become a hotspot for lottery luck.
