The highly anticipated release of Activision Blizzard Inc's ATVI Diablo IV has been marred by persistent log-in issues as an influx of new players floods the servers.

While gamers who had early access could play the game with a few issues, as the game became available to all players, a surge in log-in problems has become apparent.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, Blizzard Customer Service acknowledged the log-in problems on Twitter, assuring players that the company is actively investigating the issue.

"We are currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts," the statement read.

Adam Fletcher, the global community development director for Diablo, also addressed the concerns on Twitter: "We are aware of the login/server issues. Our team is diligently working on resolving them," he assured players. "Although we are seeing some improvements, our team is committed to working through the night to tackle these issues."

Numerous players have taken to social media platforms to express their grievances. As per IGN, one Reddit user lamented: "Game servers are down again. I was in the middle of teleporting and suddenly got stuck on a never-ending loading screen. Now I can't even load into the game, encountering error 30000. This is incredibly frustrating."

Moreover, in the game's "Hardcore mode," characters are permanently lost upon death, intensifying the stress caused by unexpected disconnections.

"I had almost completed the campaign with my Hardcore character when the game disconnected me during one of the final boss fights," shared a disheartened Reddit user. Losing hours of progress due to technical glitches have left many players exasperated and disappointed.

Blizzard Announces Two Diablo IV Expansions in Development

Meanwhile, Rod Fergusson, Diablo's general manager, has confirmed that two expansions are currently in development for the game.

"As I sit here we're about to launch the main game, we're finishing up season one, we're working on season two, we're working on expansion one, we're kicking off expansion two... we're working on that now and we haven't even launched the game," Fergusson said in an interview with Kinda Funny.

According to Fergusson, the live-service approach adopted for Diablo IV allows for more substantial content updates over time, with each season introducing narrative questlines and providing richer context. This is a departure from Diablo III, where expansions primarily focused on adding mechanics and balancing the game.

This commitment to post-release content already sets Diablo IV apart from its predecessors. Both Diablo II and Diablo III received one major expansion each with ongoing support through patches and updates.

Blizzard has indicated that Diablo IV will continue to receive updates for "years" after launch and has already unveiled an extensive roadmap for future content.
