Priority Home Warranty Product Offering

Priority Home Warranty offers coverage for appliance failure and system breakdowns that result because of typical wear and tear. Rather than paying for a total replacement or repair cost, customers with systems or appliance warranty plans only pay a portion of these expenses through a per-claims service fee. A home warranty differs from manufacturer's warranty, as the latter generally covers the cost of the failed piece of an appliance but not the labor or repair costs.

The home warranty policies offered by Priority Home Warranty are also different from the coverage you get through your homeowners insurance, which covers costs for incidents such as theft or fire but not routine breakdowns of household systems. The purpose of a home warranty is to fill in the gaps in coverage left by your homeowners insurance by ensuring that you don’t need to pay thousands of dollars upfront in the event that one of your major home components breaks down.

Priority Home Warranty offers three plan options in about half of the states in the country. The three plan options available through Priority Home Warranty can be further customized with additional add-ons. Plan choices are Systems Home Care, Appliance Home Care and Total Home Care. The lists below outline the items covered under each plan.

Systems Home Care

The Systems Home Care plan is Priority’s home systems plan and includes coverage for the major systems that make up your property. The systems warranty plan provides coverage for the following home systems.

  • Air conditioning
  • Heating system
  • Electrical system
  • Plumbing system
  • Plumbing stoppages
  • Water heater
  • Whirlpool bathtub
  • Ductwork

Appliance Home Care

The Appliance Home Care plan is Priority Home Warranty’s appliance warranty plan. This plan offers coverage for the most frequently used appliances in your home, including:

  • Clothes washer
  • Clothes dryer
  • Kitchen refrigerator
  • Built-in microwave
  • Dishwasher
  • Garbage disposal
  • Oven
  • Range
  • Stove
  • Cooktop
  • Ceiling and exhaust fans

Total Home Care

The Total Home Care plan combines the Appliance Home Care and System Home Care plans as a comprehensive option for complete home protection. You’ll find every appliance and system included in coverage with the previous two plans included on the Total Home Care policy. This plan option provides you with all-in-one coverage as well as a single monthly premium and a more affordable price when compared to buying both plans separately.

Optional Add-on Coverages

Priority Home Warranty provides the following additional coverage options that you can add to your selected policy:

  • Ice maker
  • Stand-alone freezer
  • Second dishwasher
  • Water softener
  • Second tankless water heater
  • Central vacuum
  • Second clothes washer
  • Tankless water heater
  • Well pump
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Second refrigerator
  • Second clothes dryer
  • Septic pumping
  • Septic system
  • Coverage for home over 5,000 square feet
  • Sump pump
  • Second oven
  • Second range
  • Second stove
  • Limited roof leak
  • Second air conditioner
  • Saltwater pool system

Despite offering several plan choices, customizable options and affordable prices, Priority Home Warranty has some drawbacks. Its systems and appliance warranty coverage is not available in every state and excludes states such as Florida, California and New York. In addition, some limitations apply to the scope of coverage. Priority Home Warranty shares a sample contract here, detailing the applicable restrictions. Some of these include covering only 60% of a protected item's depreciated value within 120 days of the purchase date. Access, diagnosis, repair and replacement for all covered items is also capped at $1,600 per item. Coverage for certain specified items is further limited to just $500.

Besides limitations, Priority Home Warranty excludes other costs from coverage altogether. Expenses not covered include routine maintenance, disposal of systems, cosmetic repairs and modification, repair or replacement of a recalled item. Some items excluded from coverage are commercial-grade equipment and systems, vents and filters for any covered asset and lighting. This list is not exhaustive, so if you are considering Priority Home Warranty, review the sample contract to see the full extent of limitations and exclusions.

Customer Service

Priority Home Warranty offers two ways  to contact its customer service team:

  • By phone: To contact Priority Home Warranty by phone, call 888-812-1060. Customer service is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, meaning that you can rely on Priority Home Warranty to be standing by even in the event of an emergency breakdown. This can also make Priority a strong choice for property owners who rent out their unit and who may need to call for an urgent repair.
  • Via email: To get in touch with Priority Home Warranty via email, send a message to info@priorityhomewarranty.com.

Though Priority’s homepage states you can also connect with customer service via live chat, Benzinga was not able to find or access this feature.

Customer Pricing

To help you get a better idea of what you might expect to pay for a home warranty policy from Priority Home Warranty, Benzinga requested a few quotes for a variety of sample properties across the country.

Home locationAppliance Home CareSystems Home CareTotal Home Care
Arkansas City, Kansas$43.75 per month$43.75 per month$55 per month
Philadelphia$43.75 per month$43.75 per month$55 per month
Knoxville, Tennessee$43.75 per month$43.75 per month$55 per month

As you can see, the location of your home doesn’t seem to play a role in the price you pay per month for your plan. In the future, Priority Home Warranty can improve its transparency by providing pricing information on plans upfront without requiring the user to submit their phone number, address or other personal information to the company.

In addition to a monthly premium, you’ll also pay a per-incident service fee each time you use your plan. Though Priority Home Warranty refers to this payment as a “deductible,” it is not a true deductible because you must pay the service fee every time you use your policy — regardless of the number of times you have claimed repairs in the past. Priority Home Warranty’s standard service fee is $90, which is higher than most other home warranty companies.

User Benefits

When you purchase your home warranty through Priority, you can take advantage of the following benefits:

  • Live claims tracking: With the Priority Home Warranty Real Time Live Claim Tracking system, you can see the status of your open claims, track your claim and see any changes made to your claim or status. This can be especially beneficial for property owners who need to track their claims status on the go.
  • Choice of service professionals: With Priority Home Warranty, all technicians are licensed, insured and bonded. If you would like to choose your own service contractor, you may do so as long as Priority Home Warranty is able to verify that the service provider you’d like to use is licensed, insured and bonded. If you’ve had issues with a home warranty company providing inadequate repairs or replacements in the past, this commitment to quality craftsmanship can provide you with peace of mind as a homeowner.
  • No inspection or installation records required: Another benefit of choosing Priority Home Warranty is that no inspection or maintenance records are required to be approved for coverage. This means those living in older homes or with older appliances will not have difficulty obtaining coverage.

Priority Home Warranty is confident in its services, as demonstrated by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you choose a policy, you can opt out at any time. If you cancel your policy within 30 days, you receive a full refund net of any amount for the claims filed during that time. If you cancel your policy after 30 days, you are refunded a prorated amount.

User Experience

Customers of Priority Home Warranty will be pleased to find an easy-to-navigate website and overall experience designed with users in mind. To view or maintain your policy, you can contact the company or choose to use the online portal. Submitting a claim is straightforward and can be done online or over the phone. Team members are available 24/7 to assist with claims filing or any other needs. Overall, Priority Home Warranty provides a straightforward buying and claims submission process that homeowners won’t have trouble accessing.

Priority Home Warranty Versus Competitors

While Priority Home Warranty’s policies provide a range of add-on features as well as specialized policies for duplexes and investment properties, it is not the only home warranty company offering these plans. Competitors like Choice Home Warranty, First American Home Warranty and Sears Home Warranty also provide home warranty coverage with inclusions comparable to Priority Home Warranty’s. If you’re interested in Priority Home Warranty but you’re feeling put off by the price or the company’s limited service area, you may want to consider competitors.

Overall

Overall, Priority Home Warranty is a strong contender in the home warranty market, offering a variety of plans and add-ons. Users can easily file claims, contact customer service 24/7 and view live claims tracking. Customers may also choose their own technicians and are given a 30-day money-back guarantee if they are displeased with the service provided. Priority Home Warranty has excellent reviews on Google of 4.8 stars and Trustpilot of 4.4 stars.

The company has also been mentioned on NBC, CBS, USA Today and other well-known media sources. Still, Priority Home Warranty does have some downsides regarding limitations and exclusions as well as not covering certain states. The company’s pricing can also be obtuse and difficult to access, which will turn off many potential customers. Make sure to look at the sample contract provided online to ensure that the coverage is suitable for your situation.
