TrustedPals offers one pet insurance policy with a few different coverage options. Basically, the policies all cover the exact same thing for all ages and breeds. The difference between coverage options is the amount of your deductible, monthly premium, coverage limit and reimbursement level.

If you’re not happy with any of the pre-selected coverage options, you can customize your plan. You’ll see sliders for the annual limit, reimbursement amount and annual deductible for your pet’s policy. You can move the slider to the amounts that you want, and TrustedPals will automatically update its annual premium to reflect your choices.

TrustedPals pet insurance policies cover accidents and illnesses for both dogs and cats. This includes vet exams for visits related to covered accidents and illnesses. For covered conditions, it also covers diagnostics and treatments, including surgery, medications and bandages.

Additionally, TrustedPals covers behavioral training and therapies that are prescribed by your veterinarian. For example, if your veterinarian suggests you seek a consultation from a certified behaviorist for your anxious dog, that would be covered.

It’s important to note that like other pet insurance companies, TrustedPals does not cover pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is a condition that a pet was seen for before the pet insurance policy’s start date. However, TrustedPals may cover a pre-existing condition that was fully cured if the issue occurs again after the policy begins.

A pet insurance policy from TrustedPals does not cover wellness and preventative care. This includes annual wellness exams, vaccinations, flea and tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives and dental preventative cleaning. But TrustedPals does offer a wellness plan that can be purchased alongside its pet insurance plan to cover these services.

TrustedPals Customer Service

Pet insurance is a newer industry, so it’s not surprising that it’s not rated by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or other companies. However, TrustedPals’ underwriter — Zurich Insurance Companies — has a BBB rating and AM Best rating of A+. Because the underwriter of the insurance company has a high credit rating and the BBB has rated its interactions with its customers highly, you can look upon TrustedPals favorably.

TrustedPals is available in a few different ways. You can call the company during its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST Monday through Friday. You can also submit an email to the company at any time.

The company’s claims process is straightforward. Like other pet insurance companies, you’ll go to the vet and pay for your pet’s visit. When you have the itemized invoice from your vet (this is usually what they print and give you after you pay), you can submit a copy through the TrustedPals Pawtal. In some cases, after you submit your claim, you may be asked to submit your pet’s medical records, or the company might contact your vet directly for this information.

Submitting claims to TrustedPals only takes a few moments. The company aims to pay all its claims within 10 working days, but it may take longer if you need to submit additional information.

TrustedPals Pricing

The cost of pet insurance is among the top concerns for pet parents. Fortunately, TrustedPals makes it easy to get a quote for your pet’s insurance policy online. All you need to do is select whether you have a dog or cat and provide their name, breed, gender and age. You’ll also need to provide your email address and ZIP code. If you have a service dog, let TrustedPals know so it can give you a 5% discount (as long as your state allows it). You’ll receive a copy of the quote via email.

Here’s the quote TrustedPals gave Benzinga for a 2-year-old male medium-sized (31 to 50 pounds) mixed-breed dog.

Budget-FriendlyMost PopularBest Reimbursement
Monthly premium$22$34$57
Annual coverage limit$4,000$8,000Unlimited
Reimbursement70%80%90%
Annual deductible$750$250$100

And here’s a quote for a 2-year-old female long-haired mixed breed cat.

Budget-FriendlyMost PopularBest Reimbursement
Monthly premium$15$23$39
Annual coverage limit$4,000$8,000Unlimited
Reimbursement70%80%90%
Annual deductible$750$250$100

TrustedPals also allows you to pay for your pet’s policy annually instead of in monthly installments. Paying annually could save you a few dollars, but with it only saving $2 or $3 in total throughout the year, it’s not worth stressing over if you don’t have enough saved up to pay for the whole year when you purchase the policy.

Because pet insurance premiums vary based on coverage limits, reimbursement levels and deductibles, it can be difficult to compare pricing between companies. If you’re shopping around for pet insurance, it’s a good idea to keep your chosen amounts the same for each quote so you can make the most accurate comparison.

TrustedPals Application Experience

TrustedPals makes it easy to apply for a pet insurance policy. When you get a quote, you can instantly review your coverage options and select what works best for you. After you’re satisfied with your coverage, you can move on in the application process. The next step is to provide your information, including your name, address and contact information. There’s also an option to let TrustedPals know whether you’re eligible for a 5% discount. The company offers the discount to first responders, active military members, veterans and veterinary staff and students. After you’ve entered this information, you move on to the payment portion of the application.

The online application process is all you need to do. Your pet does not need to undergo a medical exam before the pet insurance policy is approved. However, there is a waiting period for most pet insurance policies. Even after you purchase the policy, there is a 14-day waiting period before coverage begins. Most pet insurance companies have this, but the length of the waiting period can vary based on the company.

TrustedPals vs Competitors

TrustedPals stands out among its competitors for a few different reasons. First, the company offers a lot of flexibility that may not be available from other pet insurance companies. Not only can you customize your coverage with TrustedPals, you can even select unlimited coverage, $0 deductible and 100% reimbursement plans. These can be difficult to find in the pet insurance world. The 5% discount for service dogs is also not something you see very often from pet insurance providers.

TrustedPals Overall

TrustedPals is a good option for most pet parents. It offers coverage for dogs and cats of any age, so you can get a pet insurance policy for senior pets just as easily as you can for an 8-week-old puppy. The company also offers flexibility in its coverage and payment options. Not only does TrustedPals offer three coverage levels to choose from, you can also create your own customized coverage. This includes policies with a $0 deductible or 100% reimbursement level. You can even customize your policy to make it as budget-friendly as possible.

TrustedPals offers most of the same coverages that other pet insurance policies do. It covers accidents and illnesses, with the exception of pre-existing conditions. Policies from this company may provide coverage for pre-existing conditions that reoccur after the pet has fully recovered from a pre-existing condition. TrustedPals also covers exam fees and behavioral treatment as long as it’s prescribed by a veterinarian. These coverages aren’t always offered from other pet insurance companies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

Can you be denied pet insurance?

A

It’s usually easy to get pet insurance. In some cases, a policy might be denied entirely if a pet insurance company does not serve your area or doesn’t accept your pet’s age. However, the biggest thing to be aware of is that a pet insurance company can deny your pet insurance claim. This usually happens in instances where the pet insurance company has determined your pet’s vet visit was the result of a pre-existing condition.

Q

How does pet insurance know about pre-existing conditions?

A

When it comes to figuring out how pet insurance works, this is a common question. Pet insurance companies will look at your pet’s medical records when they process a claim. If your pet’s medical records show signs of an illness that occurred before you had pet insurance or before the waiting period was over, it will likely be considered a pre-existing condition.
