Wagmo Pet Insurance Product Offering

Wagmo offers both emergency insurance coverage and a variety of preventative wellness plan options. Pet insurance operates similarly to health insurance for humans, helping you cover the cost of veterinary bills that you incur for your pet. Like some other pet insurance providers, Wagmo offers a variety of options to adjust your coverage levels, deductible and lifetime cap on benefits. This process allows you to balance inclusions and price, outfitting you with a policy that covers only what you need at a price you can afford.

Though Wagmo currently only offers policies for cat insurance and dog insurance, the company’s unique selection of wellness plans can make customizing coverage easier. Take a closer look at Wagmo’s insurance plan choices and what’s covered on each.

Emergency Insurance

Wagmo offers one emergency insurance plan for both cats and dogs. Some of the inclusions you’ll find on the emergency insurance plan are:

  • Prescription medications (50% of the cost)
  • Emergency vet visits
  • Virtual, in-home or in-office care
  • Hospital stays
  • Surgeries
  • X-rays
  • Ultrasounds
  • CT scans
  • Laboratory tests
  • Cancer treatment
  • Hereditary and congenital conditions
  • Prosthetics and orthopedics
  • Hip dysplasia (not covered on pets over 6 months old)
  • End-of-life care (euthanasia)
  • Pet ambulance (maximum benefit of $100)

No pet insurance provider will include every situation under its coverage. Some of the things not included on your Wagmo pet insurance policy include:

  • Spaying or neutering
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Prescription food
  • Boarding
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Dental surgeries
  • Biohazard fees
  • Training and obedience class
  • Cosmetic surgeries (ear cropping, tail docking, declawing)
  • Breeding, pregnancy or birth expenses
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Preventative care (though you can add coverage with a Wellness plan)

As you shop for pet insurance plans, you’ll notice that there are a variety of expenses and coverage limitations you’ll need to be aware of as the policyholder. When you sign onto a Wagmo pet insurance policy, you’ll first select your deductible. The deductible is the amount of money you must contribute toward your pet insurance claims. You need to meet your deductible once per year, after which your pet insurance company will cover the predefined percentage of care costs.

Wagmo offers $250, $500 and $1,000 deductible options on its emergency plans. Plans with high deductibles start at just $1 per day, so signing onto a policy with a higher deductible will help you save money on premiums.

You’ll also choose between two coinsurance percentages. Your coinsurance is the percentage of your bill you are responsible for paying after you’ve met your deductible. For example, if you receive a $1,000 vet bill and you have a policy coinsurance percentage of 25%, it means that you will need to contribute $250 toward this bill. Your insurance provider will pick up the remaining $750.

Wagmo offers policies with 10% coinsurance as well as no coinsurance. While policies with 100% coverage are more expensive than policies with coinsurance, this unique benefit might be right for pet owners looking for the most comprehensive coverage.

Wagmo insurance policies do not include any type of coverage for pre-existing conditions, which include symptoms that were present at the time when you sign up for your insurance. Your Wagmo insurance policy will include a waiting period, during which you cannot use your benefits towards your vet bills. Waiting periods prevent you from signing onto a policy after your pet has already been injured or falls ill.

Wagmo’s emergency pet insurance policies include a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illness coverage and a 30-day waiting period for cancer treatments. These waiting periods do not apply to preventive services — so if you do opt to add wellness coverage to your insurance, you can begin using your benefits immediately.

Like many other pet insurance policy providers, Wagmo does not offer unlimited coverage on its plans. Claims are limited to $1,000 per incident and $100,000 over the course of your pet’s lifetime. This means that Wagmo will not provide you with any reimbursement beyond $1,000 per individual incident or event and $100,000 in total. Wagmo’s policies also include $20,000 annual coverage limitations.

Wellness Plans

While most pet insurance plan providers only offer one option for preventive care coverage, Wagmo offers three levels of wellness coverage. This can be beneficial if you’re looking for higher coverage for a puppy or kitten — and can help you save money by avoiding paying for benefits you don’t need. Wagmo’s wellness insurance coverage options are as follows:

Mobile App

Wagmo’s mobile offering is comprehensive and provides users with an exceptionally easy way to manage their policy or file a claim. As a Wagmo customer, you can file a claim by simply snapping a photo of your bill and uploading it. If you’re the type of pet owner who finds themselves misplacing physical documents, the Wagmo app can help you stay organized by filing a claim from the palm of your hand. The Wagmo app is available as a free download for both Android and iOS users.

User Benefits

Wagmo offers its users a number of unique benefits over other pet insurance providers. The following features are a few of the insurer’s most notable details:

  • 100% reimbursement option: Wagmo policies are available with 90% and 100% reimbursement percentages, which means you can skip the copayment altogether if you prefer.
  • Mobile claims: If you’re a pet owner on the go, you’ll appreciate Wagmo’s streamlined mobile app, which makes claims reporting easy and convenient. Beginning an insurance claim is as easy as entering a few details and snapping a photo with your smartphone.
  • Alternate reimbursement options: If you prefer to have your reimbursement sent to an online payment account instead of your bank account, Wagmo allows you to choose PayPal or Venmo deposits. This can be helpful if you don’t have an active checking account or if you’re in the process of moving to a new service provider.

User Experience

One of the biggest benefits of Wagmo’s platform is its use of insurtech features that streamline the application and claims process. Wagmo’s application process is straightforward and easy to understand, with policy inclusions and limitations clearly defined before purchase. Most pet owners will be able to get a quote in two minutes or less.

Wagmo also offers an exceptionally simple claims submission process. Wagmo allows you to submit a claim online or over the phone — you can even submit directly through the app. Visit any veterinarian you’d like (Wagmo’s policies don’t have coverage networks) and keep a copy of your itemized bill. Snap a photo of your receipt proving that you’ve paid the bill, wait on approval and see your refund deposited directly to your bank account. Wellness claims are paid out within 24 hours, while it may take up to two weeks to see your reimbursement from a pet insurance claim.

Wagmo Versus Competitors

While Wagmo provides wellness and emergency veterinary services, it isn’t the only company providing pet insurance policies in the United States. Competitors like Geico, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) also offer comprehensive pet insurance policies that can help you cover the cost of accident and wellness treatments for your pets.
