President Joe Biden has officially thrown in his hat into the 2024 presidential race.
What Happened: Making the announcement through an a-little-over-three-minute video uploaded on his YouTube channel, the president said, “personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans," adding that that has been the work of his first term.
"This shouldn't be a red or blue issue," the president said in a bid to make his bid more inclusive and draw bipartisan support. He also highlighted the need to protect rights and to ensure everyone is treated equally and everyone has a fair shot at making it.
He slammed the MAGA extremists who were lining up to impact those freedoms. He also underlined the efforts underway to cut social security benefits and cut taxes for the very wealthy and also the anti-abortion law that dictates healthcare decisions women can make.
"This is not a time to be complacent," Biden said. "That's why I am running for re-election."
The president also called upon people to go to joebiden.com and sign up. "Let's finish the job. I know we can because this is the United States of America and there's nothing, simply nothing, we cannot do if we do it together," he said.

Why It’s Important: With Donald Trump joining the fray in the Republican presidential primary, Biden likely has a tough fight on the cards. The former president has pushed to the lead among the GOP candidates, despite his many legal travails.
A Wall Street Journal poll conducted in April, however, gave Biden a lead in a hypothetical match-up between him and Trump.
