iPhone 15 Vs iPhone 14: The Biggest Changes

1. USB-C

The widely expected USB-C port is finally here. While Apple did not tout it as an "innovative" addition, it did underline the benefits of this universal port within its own ecosystem as well – the USB-C port is now available on MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and even AirPods.

Unsurprisingly, the standard iPhone 15 models support only USB 2.0 spec – this means users will be stuck with slower data transfer speeds. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max use USB 3.0, which supports up to 10Gbps data transfer speeds.

2. Major Camera Upgrades

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus received some crucial camera upgrades – the primary camera's resolution has been upped to 48MP from 12MP, and a 2x telephoto lens.

Apple has also brought new automatic portrait features – if the subject is a person, a dog, or a cat, then the iPhone 15 captures depth information automatically. You also have the freedom to shift focus to a different subject if multiple subjects are in the frame after capturing the photo.

3. Tetraprism Camera

The widely anticipated periscope camera is here on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but Apple is calling it the Tetraprism camera instead.

Another camera feature enthusiasts will appreciate is that the iPhone 15 Pro models support seven focal lengths, from macro to 120mm.

Apple is also taking the first steps towards creating a content ecosystem for the Vision Pro headset – the iPhone 15 Pro models will get Spatial video support later this year.

4. Grade 5 Titanium Body

Apple has upgraded the design of the iPhone 15 Pro models to Grade 5 Titanium with a brushed look and contoured edges that make it more comfortable to hold the phone.

5. Action Button

The mute switch is now dead, replaced by the Action button. This button is customizable with nine different actions, as we reported earlier.

6. Brand New A17 Pro Chipset

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are powered by the brand-new A17 Pro chipset. Apple says that this is the "biggest redesign in the history of Apple GPUs". It supports hardware-based ray tracing, which Apple claims is four times faster than software-based solutions.

7. Dynamic Island For Everyone

All four iPhone 15 models now have Dynamic Island. Until the iPhone 14 series, this feature was restricted to the Pro models only, but Apple has expanded it to the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. If you want an iPhone without the dated notch, the iPhone 15 is what you need.

Surprise! No Price Hike

Surprisingly, the much-talked-about iPhone 15 price hike did not materialize. Apple has kept the prices of all four iPhone 15 models virtually unchanged.

The top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max now starts at $1,199 instead of $1,099, but the storage has been increased to 256GB instead of 128GB.
