'To The Stars' – Elon Musk's New Progressive $100 Million STEM-Focused School Gets The Green Light In Texas

Hopefully, when you receive this, I will be elbow-deep in turkey and stuffing.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and the house will be full of food, festivities, family, and friends—and I will not be obligated to buy gifts for any of them.
I hope you and yours are gathered to celebrate the day as we kick off what will hopefully be a wonderful holiday season.
Over the last few weeks, we have discussed different kinds of C-suite executives buying stocks. As I do every quarter, I checked in with the bosses for some of the best money ideas that can help you, names no one has ever heard of, and brought you some ideas that can help you stack profits towards your long-term goals.
This week, we will switch back to the C-suite of operating businesses and examine which companies receive strong buying interest from top executives.
Business development company Prospect Capital (Ticker: PSEC) has had a rough couple of weeks.
To preserve capital, the company slashed the dividend by 25%.
Moody&#8217;s knocked its credit rating down a notch, making it the second firm to do so in the last month.
After reporting a disappointing quarter, the firm announced it was exiting the CLO and real estate investing business to focus on middle-market lending.
&nbsp;Even after a rally last week, the stock is down about 12% this month and 22% year to date.
Over the last few years, the stock has fallen from over $9 a share to under $5.
The CEO, John Barry, did the only thing that made sense under the circumstances. He purchased another $9 million worth of stock, bringing his ownership to almost 17% of the company. While Barry has long been a serial buyer, this was one of his largest purchases this year.
CFO Kristin Van Dask has also been buying shares recently, as has Chief Operating Officer Grier Eliasek.
I confess that I am extremely cautious of BDCs in general and have been very skeptical of Prospect Capital&#8217;s outlook, but the heavy buying coming out of the C-Suite must be considered. They have either all lost their minds, especially Mr. Barry, or the stock has enormous rebound potential.
After the dividend cut, the stock still yields over 10% and pays monthly, so you get paid to wait for a fortune reversal.
The hotel industry has been a laggard in the tentative real estate recovery. While revenues and average occupancy rates are up slightly at first glance, most of the gains come from the upper-tier hotels in gateway cities and resort destinations.
Fortunately for Pebblebrook Hotels (Ticker: PEB), that is the market it serves.
The Real Estate Investment Trust owns 46 hotels and resorts, totaling approximately 12,000 guest rooms across 13 urban and resort markets.
While Pebblebrook&#8217;s upscale hotels and resorts are bucking the trend with higher occupancy and revenue per room rates, let us not pretend they are knocking the ball out of the park.
Growth has been in the low single digits, and the same is projected for next year.
Hurricanes Debby and Helene did not help, as they negatively impacted Pebblebrook&#8217;s southeastern resorts. The stock is down about 20% in 2024 and is less than 50% of the 2022 highs. It also trades at less than half of management&#8217;s internal net asset value calculation, which is $26.50 on the low end and $29 a share on the high end of the range.
Chairman and CEO Jon Bortz has decided that enough is enough and has been buying the stock in the open market all year. His most recent purchases, earlier this month, totaled over $300,000.
The hotel industry has been weak, but it has been a superstar compared to the solar industry. Do not get me wrong: renewables are the fastest-growing new source of energy production, and solar is leading the way.
In 2023, renewable energy production grew by over 50%, 75% of which came from new solar energy facilities. The world is projected to add approximately 593 gigawatts&nbsp;of solar capacity by the end of 2024, a 29% increase from the previous year.
Solar stocks have not done as well. The sector has faced challenges, including declining demand, regulatory changes, and increased inventories. These factors have contributed to a sector-wide decline of approximately 25% this year.
Shares of Israel-based SolarEdge Technologies (Ticker: SEDG) have faced significant pressure recently, reflecting a broader slowdown in the renewable energy sector and specific challenges tied to inventory issues and weakening demand in key markets like Europe.
SolarEdge is a leader in key solar components like inverters and energy storage. Still, headwinds and concerns about the economy have driven a staggering 86% decline in the stock price so far in 2024. The expectation for next year is not much better, especially with a new administration in the United States that will not favor renewable energy.

Shares of chip stocks are trading higher following reports suggesting the US is set to announce softer sanctions on exporting semiconductor equipment and AI memory chips to China.

Ondas Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ONDS#NASDAQ">ONDS</a>) shares are trading higher Friday after the company announced a note holder will purchase $4.1 million in 3% senior convertible notes due <a href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/42243665">in 2026.</a>
The Details: CEO Eric Brock said that the proceeds from the senior convertible notes will be used to support the company&#8217;s growth plan.
&#8220;This investment is part of the multi-stage capital plan we outlined at our OAS-focused investor day in September. Since the&nbsp;third quarter, we have seen strengthening demand for both our Optimus and Iron Drone Raider autonomous drone platforms. We intend to increase inventory production to meet that demand in 2025. We look forward to updating investors on our 2025&nbsp;outlook&nbsp;in the&nbsp;first quarter&nbsp;of next year,&#8221; said Brock.
Ondas may complete additional closings for a total of up to $30.4 million in funding. The goal of the second investment would be to support general corporate purposes, with a primary focus on driving the growth of Ondas Autonomous Systems and its drone business.

The Container Store may be the next home goods chain to file for bankruptcy as a weak housing market and inflated prices hurt sales, according to a report.
The Coppell, Texas-based chain enjoyed a pandemic-induced boost in 2020 and 2021 when consumers, stuck inside their homes, took inspiration from Marie Kondo's Netflix hit "Tidying Up" and de-cluttered their spaces in a frenzy.
But a weak housing market has resulted in fewer people moving houses – resulting in smaller sales of bins and dividers. American consumers have also been hit hard by sticky inflation and have pulled back on discretionary spending, including house renovations and new furniture.
The Container Store – which was founded in 1978 and has grown to around 100 US locations – is frequently ranked as one of the most financially distressed companies in the retail industry by credit rating agencies, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/29/business/the-container-store-black-friday-shopping/index.html">according to a CNN report</a>.
There's a "high probability" the Container Store will file for bankruptcy next year – joining home goods retailers like <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/09/business/big-lots-files-for-bankruptcy-to-sell-assets-to-buyout-firm/">Big Lots</a> and <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/06/business/ll-flooring-once-known-as-lumber-liquidators-closing-all-stores-after-bankruptcy-filing/">LL Flooring</a>, which have already filed for Chapter 11 protections this year, Tim Hynes, the global head of credit research at Debtwire, told CNN.
"I don't see any dramatic increase in holiday sales that will change the situation," Hynes said. "They are already pretty far down the line."
The Container Store did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
More stores are expected to close this year than any year since the pandemic, according to Coresight Research.
In May, the retailer showed signs of financial trouble when it suspended its earnings outlook and said it would conduct a strategic review of its business to find ways to improve.
In the latest quarter ended Sept. 28, The Container Stores posted a sales decline of 10.5% and losses of $30.8 million.
The company was set to receive a Hail Mary in the form of a $40 million deal with Beyond, the owner of Bed Bath &amp; Beyond and Overstock.com, to stock Bed Bath &amp; Beyond products on the flailing stores' shelves.
Last week, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond said the investment might have to be called off after a regulatory filing from The Container Store revealed it does not expect it will be able to meet the financing conditions involved in the deal.
The company – which once welcomed floods of consumers looking to "feng shui" their homes – has fallen out of favor since its pandemic-era popularity in 2021.
Mortgage rates neared 8% last year – topping two-decade highs – and remain close to 7%. High interest rates have only just started to come down and have kept many people from buying new homes.
"When people move, they buy a heck of a lot of things related to storage and organization. Without this impetus, Container Store has struggled," GlobalData Retail analyst Neil Saunders told CNN. "The weakening of the housing market has pushed down demand for most of the products the Container Store sells."
Consumers have cut back on non-necessity spending due to record-high prices and long-lasting inflation. Walmart has emerged as a sole beneficiary, <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/19/business/walmart-beats-earnings-expectations-as-cost-conscious-shoppers-seek-out-deals/">reporting revenue and earnings that beat expectations</a> and hiking its yearlong forecast, as consumers prioritize good deals. The discount chain has gained a larger market share of households earning more than $100,000 annually as consumers at all income levels feel pain from high price tags and search for cheaper options.
And The Container Store is not known for offering low prices. Instead, it is seen as the pricier, "go-to" version that has any and every bin a shopper could need.
"There will always be a cheaper alternative to a plastic bin. Our objective is not to compete there because we don't have the scale and buying power to do so," Container Store CEO Satish Malhotra told <a href="https://www.modernretail.co/operations/why-the-container-store-is-betting-on-its-custom-spaces-business-to-reverse-sales-slump/">ModernRetail</a> in July. "It's a bit of a white glove experience we offer."
Shoppers are turning to cheaper options, like Amazon, Walmart, HomeGoods and even online retailers like Temu.
The holiday shopping season is already <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/12/business/holiday-sales-to-grow-at-slowest-pace-since-2018-inflation-wipes-out-consumers-savings/">expected to be an underwhelming one</a>, with less sales growth compared to last year.
"The home goods category has been a difficult category to be in," Moody's retail analyst Christina Boni told CNN. "It's not going to be a great home goods holiday."

This means the large group of traders and investors who created the resistance with their sell orders have been patient. They have been willing to wait and let the buyers come to them.
They feel no need to push the price lower.
But over the same time frame, the buyers had become impatient and aggressive. They were willing to pay higher prices.
Markets don't go in straight lines. They form peaks and valleys while they are trending. When a valley is higher than the one that proceeded it, traders say that it is a &#8220;higher low.&#8221;
This illustrates important price action.
It shows that as time has gone by, buyers were willing to enter the market at higher prices. They became increasingly aggressive. This combination of patient or complacent sellers and aggressive buyers could set the stage for Apple to break the resistance.
If this happens, it could illustrate another important market dynamic. It would mean the investors and traders who created the resistance have finished or canceled their orders.
With them out of the way, buyers may be forced to pay successively higher prices to attract sellers. This could force Apple into an uptrend.

India has issued a notice to German automaker Volkswagen for allegedly evading $1.4 billion in taxes by "wilfully" paying lesser import tax on components for its Audi, VW and Skoda cars, a document shows, in what is one of the biggest such demands.
A notice dated Sept. 30 says Volkswagen <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/companies/VOWG_p.DE">(VOWG_p.DE), opens new tab</a> used to import "almost the entire" car in unassembled condition - which attracts a 30-35% import tax in India under rules for CKD, or completely knocked down units, but evaded levies by "mis-declaring and mis-classifying" those imports as "individual parts", paying just a 5-15% duty.
Such imports were made by Volkswagen's India unit, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, for its models including the Skoda Superb and Kodiaq, luxury cars like Audi A4 and Q5, and VW's Tiguan SUV. Different shipment consignments were used to evade detection and "willfully evade payment" of higher taxes, the Indian investigation found.
"This logistical arrangement is an artificial arrangement ... operating structure is nothing but a ploy to clear the goods without the payment of the applicable duty," said the 95-page notice by the Office of the Commissioner of Customs in Maharashtra, which is not public but was seen by Reuters.
Volkswagen shares fell as much as 2.13% on the Frankfurt stock exchange after Reuters reported the India tax notice.
Since 2012, Volkswagen's India unit should have paid import taxes and several other related levies of about $2.35 billion to the Indian government, but paid only $981 million, amounting to a shortfall of $1.36 billion, the authority said.
In a statement, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said it is a "responsible organization, fully complying with all global and local laws and regulations. We are analyzing the notice and extending our full cooperation to the authorities."
The notice asks to respond within 30 days, but Volkswagen didn't comment if it has done so or not.
India's finance ministry and the customs department did not respond to Reuters queries.
News about the alleged tax evasion comes at a time when the Wolfsburg-based carmaker is fighting multiple battles at home and abroad. Volkswagen is locked in an <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/vw-workers-germany-wide-ready-strike-early-december-union-says-2024-11-29/">escalating dispute</a> with its labour in Germany over plant closures and layoffs while Chinese competitors are attacking Europe's established carmakers on their home turf.

In China, Volkswagen's biggest market where sales have been flagging, the carmaker said it will <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/vw-exit-xinjiang-operation-with-sales-local-plant-test-track-sources-say-2024-11-27/">sell some of its operations</a>, succumbing to years of mounting pressure.
The so-called "show cause notice" issued by the government authority asks Volkswagen's local unit to explain why its alleged tax evasion should not attract penalties and interests under Indian laws, over and above the $1.4 billion evaded duties.
A government official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the penalty typically in such cases, if the company is found guilty, could go as high as 100% of the amount evaded, which could force the company to pay up about $2.8 billion in total.
High taxes and prolonged legal disputes have often been a sore point for foreign companies in India.
Electric vehicle maker Tesla, for example, has for years complained about high taxes on imported cars and Vodafone has fought cases related to back taxes. Chinese automaker BYD also faces an <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/chinese-carmaker-byd-faces-indian-tax-investigation-sources-2023-08-02/">ongoing Indian tax investigation</a> for underpaying taxes of roughly $9 million on imports.
