J M Smucker Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SJM#NYSE">SJM</a>) reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/n44002388/the-j-m-smucker-co-announces-fiscal-2025-third-quarter-results">third-quarter FY25 sales decline</a> of 2% year-on-year to $2.19 billion, missing the analyst consensus estimate of $2.22 billion.
Gross profit for the quarter increased 7% to $878.1 million and the gross margin expanded 330 basis points to 40.2%.
The company reported an operating loss of $594 million compared to an operating income of $297.4 million.
Adjusted EPS of $2.61 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">beat the analyst consensus</a> estimate of $2.37. Operating cash flow totaled&nbsp;$239.4 million with a free cash flow was&nbsp;$151.3 million.

The company held $47.2 million in cash and equivalents as of January 31, 2025.

Disciplined cost management and execution enabled us to deliver adjusted earnings per share that exceeded our expectations,&#8221; said Chair of the Board, President, and CEO Mark Smucker.
Outlook: J M Smucker lowered the FY25 sales growth outlook from 7.50% &#8211; 8.50% to 7.25%.
However, the company raised the FY25 adjusted EPS guidance from $9.70 &#8211; $10.10 to $9.85 &#8211; $10.15.
Capital expenditure for the year is expected to be $400 million &#8211; $450 million.
Price Action: SJM shares are trading higher by 0.59% at $109.81 at last check Thursday.

Dell stock is exhibiting a strongly bullish trend. Its share price is trading above its five-day, 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages. This suggests sustained buying pressure, reinforcing the stock's positive momentum.
The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator at 0.94 further supports the bullish outlook, signaling potential upward movement. Additionally, the 20-day and 50-day simple moving averages (SMA) at $111.04 and $112.98, respectively, are either below or right next to the stock, indicating continued strength in the short- to mid-term.

Dell Stock Chart Looks Bullish, But Can Q4 Earnings Power It Past Resistance?

On Thursday,&nbsp;Novavax Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVAX#NASDAQ">NVAX</a>) reported fourth-quarter 2024 sales of $88.31 million, compared to&nbsp;$291 million&nbsp;a year, beating the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus of $84.35 million</a>. The decrease was due to lower product sales under APA agreements.
The COVID-19 vaccine maker reported an earning loss of 51 cents per share, down from $1.44 a year ago, in line <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/n44004179/novavax-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2024-financial-results-and-operational-highlights" rel="noreferrer noopener">with the Wall Street Estimate</a>.

Nuvaxovid sales reached $49.8 million, down from $251.5 million a year ago. The company ended 2024 with over&nbsp;$1 billion&nbsp;in cash and accounts receivables.
Novavax has transitioned the lead commercial responsibility of Nuvaxovid to Sanofi SA (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNY#NASDAQ">SNY</a>) for select markets beginning with the 2025-<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/05/38758287/some-breather-for-novavaxs-covid-19-vaccine-inks-multibillion-dollar-deal-with-sanofi-and-erases-" rel="noreferrer noopener">2026 vaccination season</a>.
Since Novavax is reliant on Sanofi&#8217;s sales forecasts for certain revenue components, these will not be included in the 2025 Revenue Framework at this time.
Novavax expects to achieve adjusted licensing, royalties, and other revenue of between&nbsp;$300 million&nbsp;and $350 million in 2025. Novavax is eligible to receive royalties in the high teens to low twenties percent on Sanofi sales.

On Thursday, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/taiwan" rel="noreferrer noopener">Taiwan Economy Minister</a> Kuo Jyh-huei told Reuters that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>)&nbsp;would need government permission for overseas joint ventures.
Nonetheless, there are no restrictions on making the most advanced chips overseas other than for China.

It is a significant update as, reportedly, Taiwan Semiconductor has been negotiating a stake in Intel&nbsp;Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>).
Meanwhile, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/02/43966206/china-warns-tsmc-could-become-united-states-semiconductor-manufacturing-co-as-trump-pushes-us-chipmaking" rel="noreferrer noopener">China criticized Taiwan</a> for surrendering its semiconductor industry to the U.S. to gain political support. Taiwan&#8217;s government, over which China claims sovereignty, relies on U.S. military support despite any defense treaty.
U.S. President Donald Trump had verbally attacked Taiwan since his presidential campaign days for allegedly stealing American semiconductor business and promised action against the country. Trump also threatened retaliatory tariffs because of Taiwan&#8217;s large trade surplus with the U.S.
Kuo told Reuters that the government would not interfere with Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s decisions. However, he also mentioned that the contract chipmaker needs government approval for geographical expansion and joint venture. Taiwan does not allow its companies to produce the most advanced chips in China.
Taiwan Semiconductor is already investing $65 billion in new factories in the U.S. state of Arizona, where it has won approval for the production of 2-nm chips.
Goldman Sachs&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43920072/taiwan-semiconductor-poised-for-surge-goldman-sachs-predicts-rising-demand-for-taipei-traded-shares" rel="noreferrer noopener">told&nbsp;Bloomberg</a> it expects demand for Taiwan Semiconductor&#8217;s Taipei-traded stock to surge, backed by amending the ownership of local exchange-traded funds.
Meanwhile, Big Tech giants remain <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43920072/taiwan-semiconductor-poised-for-surge-goldman-sachs-predicts-rising-demand-for-taipei-traded-shares" rel="noreferrer noopener">aggressively invested in</a> their AI ambitions. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), a Taiwan Semiconductor client, earmarked over $500 billion for U.S. investments, focusing on AI and advanced manufacturing.

Taiwan Semiconductor Faces Government Scrutiny on Overseas Ventures Amid Intel Stake Rumors

Katherine Doherty of Bloomberg recently wrote a wonderful and yet frightening article titled, "Wall Street Enters Darker Age with Most Stock Trading Hidden" (1)
Here are the first few paragraphs of the article……. "Here's a surprising new fact about the world's largest and most-liquid public equity market: Most of the activity on it isn't public anymore.
For the first time on record, the majority of all trading in US stocks is now consistently occurring outside the country's exchanges, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
This off-exchange activity — which happens internally at major firms or on alternative platforms known as dark pools — is on course to account for a record 51.8% of traded volume in January. Barring an unexpected dip, it will be the fifth monthly record in a row, and the third month running that hidden trades make up more than half of all volume."
My firm, <a href="http://lcmcapital.com">LCM Capital Management</a>, thinks this should scare anyone who buys and sells stocks, ETFs, or other securities on our exchanges and believes that they are getting the best price. I know for a fact that the "dark-web" is not a good place to be, so I cannot imagine trading in "dark pools" is good for us either, unless of course you are a large institution.
The article states that, "the number of off-exchange venues known as alternative-trading systems, or ATS, offer an alternative, anonymous way to process trades and has been growing." That does not sound very positive to us. "These ATS use different mechanisms to match buyers and sellers without the desired price being displayed on a public exchange, or automated auctions where parties express the value they are willing to buy or sell stocks for. Using off-exchange venues helps institutional investors limit information leaking to the market and adversely affecting prices." This strikes us as a polite way of saying this is being done for the betterment of the big guys at the expense of the little guys.
Joe Saluzzi of Themis Trading. said "The bigger institutions seem to have a better experience where they can command more value." Hmmm, I know myself and our clients would sure like a better experience and more value when we are buying or selling stocks, how about you?
We are a federally Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is tasked with protecting investors &#8211; and to their credit, they've made efforts when it comes to the ATS. However, according to the article some of their proposals have been stymied with only a few watered-down ones passing.&nbsp; This leads us to wonder if the game is rigged if our regulators can't seem to break-in.
The Head of Strategic Operations and Public Policy at NASDAQ, Chuck Mack, says, "the worry is that the move toward off-exchange could ultimately make pricing less efficient and drive-up costs for investors and issuers." I feel comfortable telling Chuck, remove the word "could" because it "will," and once again, be at the expense of the little guy.
If you have read any of our previous blogs, you know LCM Capital Management despises these firms and big institutions and why trading the market is a fool's game. We believe the system is rigged and Ms. Doherty's article is telling you as much.
So, what's an investor to do?
<ul>
<li>Remember investing is not a game and investing is not synonymous with trading. We have just explained to you that the playing field is not level and from the looks of it, only getting worse. </li>
<li>Control what you can control, namely, your fees, your investment taxes and avoid owning actively traded mutual funds (our next blog will explain to you why that is). Keep in mind, one should invest for the long-term and turn off or mute the talking heads on financial cable TV stations – they know no more than you or LCM Capital Management. </li>
<li>Be skeptical of anyone promising to "beat the market" through stock picking or active trading strategies. The reality is, if the institutions with all their resources are pulling the strings behind the scenes, then the average investor has even less of a chance of consistently winning. </li>
<li>Focus on strategies that do not rely on playing Wall Street's game. Broad diversification, disciplined rebalancing, and tax-efficient investing will serve you far better than trying to outmaneuver an industry that increasingly relies on shrouded exchanges.</li>

Ambarella shares are trading lower after the company reported a Q4 Adj EPS miss.

Investors with a lot of money to spend have taken a bullish stance on Intuit (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTU#NASDAQ">INTU</a>).
And retail traders should know.
We noticed this today when the trades showed up on publicly available options history that we track here at Benzinga.
Whether these are institutions or just wealthy individuals, we don't know. But when something this big happens with INTU, it often means somebody knows something is about to happen.
So how do we know what these investors just did? 
Today, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/">Benzinga</a>'s options scanner spotted 39 uncommon options trades for Intuit.
This isn't normal.
The overall sentiment of these big-money traders is split between 51% bullish and 33%, bearish.
Out of all of the special options we uncovered, 16 are puts, for a total amount of $1,296,161, and 23 are calls, for a total amount of $1,145,442.

SoFi says, "THTA provides a simple, liquid way to diversify one&#8217;s portfolio by introducing what is a fast-growing emerging asset class: options-powered income strategies." 



"The new fund will also take advantage of tax loss harvesting opportunities in addition to utilizing ZEGA options strategy," the company adds. ZEGA also manages an ETF called the Zega Buy And Hedge ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ZHDG#NYSE">ZHDG</a>) which provides investors with exposure to the U.S. large-cap market while mitigating downside risks in the event of a market downturn, such as the COVID-19 market crash.
