Vice President Kamala Harris is being scrutinized increasingly by financial investors and political analysts as the 2024 election cycle starts heating up. Kevin O’Leary, chairman of O’Leary Ventures and the star of the TV program ‘Shark Tank,' said he believes some Democratic donors are experiencing “buyer’s remorse” over Harris being the party’s presumptive nominee.

O’Leary told Jesse Watters in an interview with Fox News that some Democratic donors who have funded Harris’s presidential campaign are now raising questions over whether she could effectively implement her policy objectives. “Well, some of us have buyer’s remorse,” O’Leary stated.
O’Leary says this concern is rooted in Harris’s lack of concrete achievements during her vice presidency. “If I were hiring her – and I’m not trying to be partisan – I'd ask her, ‘What was the goal? What did you achieve?’" O’Leary said, wanting tangibles from people in leadership positions.
When asked to identify Harris’s most significant accomplishment, O’Leary struggled to find an example before conceding, “I don’t know because I don’t know of one.” This sentiment mirrors a more general skepticism of Harris’s record, particularly as she has thrust herself into the spotlight as the Democratic front-runner.
Harris has been under severe criticism, especially vis-à-vis her handling of the illegal immigration crisis at the southern border with over 302,034 illegal immigrants at the southern border as of December 2023. The opposition camp opines that she has responded poorly and her inability to stem the flow of illegal immigration emerged as a major point of contention.

Even some of Harris’s supporters found that difficult. “I’m not sure I know enough about her accomplishments to answer that question,” a Harris supporter from Massachusetts, who only identified himself as Eric, told Fox News. That raises further doubt and the argument that she probably lacks the execution skills to run the country.
This is in addition to Vice President Harris’s office having had a highly unusual 92% staff changeover. O’Leary honed in on the fact that this is “an extraordinary number," saying it reflects deeper problems with her style. Gil Duran, Harris’s communications director while she was California’s attorney general, described the work atmosphere as “unbearable.” He said he quit after only five months on the job, partly because of the overwhelming stress.

O’Leary also equated Harris to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, observing similar energy and optimism around his rise to power. “When a young Justin Trudeau swept in, nobody cared about his executional skills or what he’d ever done,” O’Leary noted. “Look at the country now: it’s wiped out. It turns out the guy had no executional skills.”
With continuous attacks on her leadership and policy record, some political observers say Harris needs to reorient her campaign toward the center and start proposing specific concrete policies if she can convince voters. “The happy talk is going to have to stop,” he warned. He said Harris would have to address key issues like inflation, border security, energy policy, and foreign affairs to demonstrate her leadership capability.
O'Leary's investor perspective illuminates the Democratic Party’s initial excitement about Harris' candidacy. However, as challenges emerge, he suggests Harris must demonstrate her capability to execute policies effectively.
