Before the open, the company released Q1 earnings that revealed an adjusted EPS of $1.28, which may not compare to $0.62 estimates, along with a revenue beat of $560 million. The company significantly raised FY adjusted EPS 2017 guidance from the $3.25 estimate to as high as $3.75 and sales is expected to be in the $38-$41 billion range vs. $38.3 billion estimates.
After a higher open, Caterpillar's stock had a brief retreat to $102.00 before continuing its move higher. At this time, it has found resistance in the same area as its pre-market high of $103.40, as $103.71 stands as the high for the day as of 11:03 a.m. EST.
That marks the highest level for the stock since November 28, 2014, when it peaked at $104.61.
