<p>Kevin O'Leary is quite blunt when it comes to giving important advice, especially when it concerns business and money. While the "Shark Tank" host has doled out plenty of advice over the years, he follows it himself too, and is known for his frugal lifestyle.</p>

<p>Perhaps this is easier said than done at times, but O'Leary does not like expensive dates. Instead, he wants people to look at dating as an investment.</p>
<p>"You're going to spend money and you're going to spend time [on dates], so look at that significant other in the context of, ‘Do I want to spend time with them?' And, ‘Do I want to invest money in them?&#8217;" he <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/25/kevin-oleary-how-to-decide-what-to-spend-on-a-date.html">said</a> in a CNBC interview.</p>

<p>O'Leary thinks it is "such a waste of money" to buy expensive coffee that costs $2.50 to purchase but "about 18 cents" to make.</p>
<p>"I drink coffee, one cup every morning. It costs about 18 cents to make it, and I invest the rest," he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56XYThTXgOQ">said</a> in another interview on CNBC.</p>

<p>O'Leary is not a big fan of spending too much on eating out – he thinks spending $15 on sandwiches makes no sense for something that costs 99 cents to make at home.</p>
<p>"You know, you go to work, you spend 15 bucks on a sandwich. What are you an idiot?" he <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@kevinolearytv/video/7275123149476252971?lang=en">said</a> in a TikTok video.</p>

<p>O'Leary thinks spending too much on clothes is another big source of throwing money down the drain.</p>
<p>"If you actually look at your closet, you probably wear the same 20% 80% of the time, and the rest of the stuff you bought is wasted," said O'Leary in an interview with Entrepreneur.</p>
<p>He added that he has 20 suits and carries four of them with him – he wears them out before buying new ones, which helps him not waste money.</p>

<p>Leading e-commerce company <strong>Amazon.com Inc</strong> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) showed off its <strong>Prime Video</strong> streaming platform during the recent <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38853050/amazons-upfront-presentation-highlights-strong-push-into-movies-and-sports-advertising-analyst">upfront presentation for advertisers.</a></p>
<p>While the company highlighted upcoming movies and television series, an emphasis was also put on game shows.</p>
<p><strong>What Happened</strong>: Amazon Prime Video has one of the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/04/38024244/appletv-a-streaming-winner-new-survey-shows-platform-has-smallest-library-highest-rated-con"> largest content libraries </a>when it comes to streaming platforms and the library will continue to grow with new shows and movies.</p>
<p>Amazon announced several upcoming series that should have game show fans excited.</p>
<p>Prime Video is getting a new version of one of the most well-known game shows of all time. "Pop Culture Jeopardy!" marks the first spin-off of the game show for a major streaming service, according to <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/jeopardy-pop-culture-trivia-spinoff-amazon-prime-video-1236001709/">Variety</a>.</p>
<p>A sports version and rock and roll version of Jeopardy! previously aired on other networks. This new show will combine elements of both.</p>
<p>From <strong>Sony Group Corp </strong>(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SONY#NYSE">SONY</a>), the new series will focus on film, television, music and sports, according to the report.</p>
<p>Differing from the original "Jeopardy!" the new version could feature teams based on comments from Amazon.</p>
<p>"With a team-based approach and pop-culture focus, our global Prime Video customers will exclusively experience this innovative spin on Jeopardy! while testing their knowledge on topics that both define and transcend generations," Amazon MGM Studios' Head of AVOD originals unscripted and targeted programming<strong> Lauren Anderson</strong> said.</p>
<p>No host has been announced for "Pop Culture Jeopardy!"</p>
<p>Amazon also <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/nick-cannon-jb-smoove-game-shows-amazon-prime-video-1236001801/">announced </a>"Buy It Now" and "Wish List Games," two new game shows that will tie in the Amazon.com e-commerce platform.</p>
<p><strong>JB Smoove</strong> will host "Buy It Now" and<strong> Nick Cannon </strong>will serve as host of "Wish List Games."</p>
<p>On "Buy It Now," entrepreneurs will try to convince a live studio audience of 100 people and a panel of business experts that their items should be added to Amazon.</p>
<p>"Wish List Games" will see contestants playing for the chance to win items on their Amazon wish list.</p>

<p>"With the chance to win cash, prizes, or simply notoriety, competition and game series are the ultimate wish fulfillment," Anderson said, as shared by Variety.</p>
<p>The new game show announcements follow Amazon previously announcing a new updated version of "Are You Smarter Than A 5<sup>th</sup> Grader?" Titled "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" the new Prime Video game show <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/03/37872731/will-travis-kelce-be-able-to-balance-nfl-career-taylor-swift-romance-and-an-amazon-prime-sh">will be hosted by </a>NFL star <strong>Travis Kelce.</strong></p>
<p>Amazon announced this week that celebrities on the game show will include comedians <strong>Natasha Leggero, Nicole Byer, Nikki Glaser </strong>and <strong>Ron Funches.</strong> Former NFL players <strong>Chad Ochocinco </strong>and <strong>Ryan Fitzpatrick </strong>will also appear on the game show.</p>
<p>Prime Video will also be the home of <strong>"Beast Games," </strong>a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/24/03/37809533/mrbeast-confirms-beast-games-on-amazon-prime-video-with-1-000-contestants-5m-prize-its-gonn">new game show</a> from content creator and YouTube superstar <strong>MrBeast, </strong>aka <strong>Jimmy Donaldson.</strong></p>
<p>&#8220;Big news gamers I&#8217;m going to be filming the largest game show in history and releasing it on Prime Video! Over 1,000 contestants, $5,000,000 prize, and many other world records,&#8221; MrBeast&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/MrBeast/status/1769741243339141413" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>MrBeast said the show would be the largest in game show history with the most contestants, biggest sets and biggest cash prize. The YouTuber said the streaming show will be around 20x his normal videos.</p>
<p>A first episode or what MrBeast called episode 0.5/prelude, will air on YouTube first before the series airs on Prime Video.</p>
<p>&#8220;I need everyone to watch it. I just want people to enjoy it.&#8221;</p>
<p>While Amazon doesn't break out the number of Prime Video subscribers it has, the segment remains a key growth focus as it has often helped with growing Amazon Prime subscriptions. Increased monetization efforts by placing ads on Prime Video could also be supported with the new show launches.</p>

<p>I&rsquo;ll admit, it&rsquo;s not an easy time to invest in electric vehicle startups. However, I&rsquo;m inviting you to take a serious look at&nbsp;<strong>Rivian Automotive </strong>(NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rivn-stock-quote/"><strong>RIVN</strong></a></span>). Rivian stock is out of favor right now, but that&rsquo;s why you should consider it for a small portfolio position.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Rivian Automotive&nbsp;has an important financial goal that could be achieved before the year is over. So, be patient and don&rsquo;t get pulled into a bear trap, as Rivian&rsquo;s buy-and-hold investors will prevail eventually.</p>



<h2>A Huge Incentive Package for Rivian</h2>



<p>Even if some short-term stock traders are worried about Rivian Automotive, at least one local government supports the EV maker. Consequently, Rivian is set to receive a capital infusion valued at more than $800 billion.</p>



<p>To be more specific, Rivian Automotive&nbsp;announced an $827 million <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/rivian-gets-nearly-1-billion-152305644.html">incentive package</a> from the State of Illinois Department of Commerce &amp; Economic Opportunity. Among other endeavors, the funding will help Rivian expand its operations in the Illinois city of Normal.</p>



<p>There are a couple of crucial takeaways from this news item. First, with this new funding, Rivian Automotive can really focus on the build-out in Illinois. As you may recall, Rivian recently <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/automaker-rivian-pauses-construction-5-230206412.html">halted the construction</a> of its $5 billion electric-truck factory in Georgia.</p>



<p>Second, if Rivian Automotive&nbsp;can effectively deploy the funding to expedite its Illinois operations, then the automaker should be able to speed up the production of its R2 mid-size SUV model. So, keep an eye on this highly encouraging news story for further developments.</p>



<h2>Rivian Automotive Aims for a &lsquo;Modest&rsquo; Gross Profit</h2>



<p>In other news, Rivian Automotive&nbsp;released its <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/rivian-releases-first-quarter-2024-201700788.html">first-quarter 2024 results</a> not long ago. The company generated revenue of $1.204 billion, which was <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/rivian-earnings-stock-price-c1d38b12">roughly in line</a> with Wall Street&rsquo;s expectations.</p>



<p>That&rsquo;s not the most exciting outcome, but there&rsquo;s more to the story. Indeed, I suspect that some stock traders missed a significant detail in Rivian Automotive&rsquo;s quarterly report.</p>



<p>In particular, Rivian Automotive expects to achieve a &ldquo;modest&rdquo; gross profit in this year&rsquo;s fourth quarter. That would be an impressive feat, considering Rivian posted a negative gross profit of $527 million for Q1 of 2024.</p>



<p>Bear in mind, however, that this gross-profit result included $171 million of costs involving, among other things, &ldquo;updates being made to our Normal Factory during the plant retooling upgrade.&rdquo; It looks like there are some temporary costs factored in to Rivian Automotive&rsquo;s first-quarter 2024 negative gross profit.</p>



<p>Rivian Automotive is implementing &ldquo;cost of revenue efficiency initiatives&rdquo; and an EV-platform &ldquo;retooling upgrade.&rdquo; Rivian anticipates &ldquo;significant improvement in the material and conversion cost of its vehicles&rdquo; and is confident about achieving a &ldquo;modest&rdquo; fourth-quarter gross profit.</p>



<h2>Rivian Stock Under $10 Is a Gift</h2>



<p>If Rivian Automotive&nbsp;achieves anything close to a gross profit this year, this would represent a marked improvement. Also, the Illinois government&rsquo;s financial award to Rivian should help the automaker speed up its R2 production pace.</p>



<p>Let&rsquo;s not be overconfident, though. The path forward for Rivian Automotive and its stakeholders won&rsquo;t be easy. Still, beaten-down Rivian stock seems to have priced in all of the automaker&rsquo;s challenges and none of the opportunities. </p>



<p>Therefore, investors should consider picking up a few Rivian shares if they&rsquo;re under $10, with a goal of getting back to $25 eventually.</p>

It designs, develops, manufactures and sells premium smart electric vehicles. The company&rsquo;s product line comprises MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles) and sport utility vehicles &ndash; recording revenue of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LI/key-statistics">$123.8 billion</a> in fiscal year (FY) 2023.</p>



<p>While LI stock is down 22.84% year-to-date (YTD). Although this is generally seen as a negative sign, multiple financial institutions such as <strong>Morgan Stanley</strong> and Barclays rate LI stock as &ldquo;overweight&rdquo;, suggesting that returns will outshadow the market average for EV stocks. 27 Yahoo Finance analysts predict an average growth rate of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LI/analysis">76.5%</a> over the next year.</p>



<p>Additionally, it has great profit and operating margins &ndash; <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LI/key-statistics">9.45%</a> and <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LI/key-statistics">7.28%</a> respectively. Strong R&amp;D, financial performance and global expansion plans make it an attractive investment in the growing EV sector.</p>



<h2><strong>Rivian Automotive (RIVN)</strong></h2>

It offers consumer vehicles, including a two-row, five-passenger pickup truck under the R1T brand, as well as a three-row, seven-passenger sport utility vehicle under the R1S name.</p>



<p>RIVN stock has seen year-over-year (YoY) quarterly earnings growth of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/RIVN/key-statistics">82.10%</a> with an overall revenue of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/RIVN/key-statistics">4.98 billon dollars.</a> However, this is counterbalanced by an operating cash flow of -$4.61 billion and a levered free cash flow of -$4.21 billion. While these are traditionally negative signs, it is important to note that Rivian is still a new company&ndash; often compared to EV giant <strong>Tesla</strong> (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/"><strong>TSLA</strong></a>). In the EV sector, which involves R&amp;D, vehicle manufacturing, etc., negative cash flows shouldn&rsquo;t be a sign of concern for companies that are still growing.</p>



<p>Although some investors are bearish, I am quite bullish about RIVN, and it is among the top EV stocks to buy.</p>



<h2><strong>Nio (NIO)</strong></h2>

It offers a collection of five and six-seater electric SUVs, as well as smart electric sedans. Currently, it is trading at $5.07, with a market cap of $10.963 billion.</p>



<p>NIO&rsquo;s quarterly revenue has YoY growth of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NIO/key-statistics">6.50%</a>, and the company has recently produced its <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk2Esncf76E">500,000th</a> car. This is with a profit margin of -38.02% and an operating margin of -38.74%, causing some skepticism. However, it is important to note that as the company is growing, it is natural for expenditures to eclipse revenue. Exploring different verticals remedies this; the company aims to enter the U.S. market in <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/Nio-aims-to-enter-U.S.-market-by-2025-with-China-made-premium-EVs">2025</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<p>In a capital-intensive sector such as automobiles, bad financials at an early stage aren&rsquo;t indicators of poor performance. As the EV sector grows at a CAGR of <a href="https://www.gminsights.com/industry-analysis/us-electric-vehicle-market">15.5%</a> until 2032 in just the US, this company is likely to produce fantastic results.</p>

<p>Around <a href="https://www.iea.org/news/the-worlds-electric-car-fleet-continues-to-grow-strongly-with-2024-sales-set-to-reach-17-million">17 million electric cars</a> are expected to be sold worldwide in 2024; China will lead with 45% of auto sales. What&rsquo;s more, EVs are also expected to make up one in nine cars sold in the U.S. and one in four cars sold in Europe; in Q1 2024 Americans alone purchased 268,909 new electric vehicles.</p>

<p>With secular tailwinds powering the sector, the first pick among these quality EV stocks to watch is the first profitable EV startup from China. Next up is a company with backing from <strong>Amazon </strong>(NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amzn-stock-quote/"><strong>AMZN</strong></a></span>) looking to produce 57,000 cars this year. Lastly, we&rsquo;ll discuss an iconic American automaker aiming to make 2 million EVs by 2026.</p>



<h2>Li Auto (LI)</h2>

<p>&#8203;This electric MPV debuted in China with much enthusiasm. The MEGA, <a href="https://ir.lixiang.com/news-releases/news-release-details/li-auto-inc-hosts-2024-spring-launch-event#:~:text=Li%20MEGA%20is%20built%20on,CLTC%20range%20of%20710%20kilometers.">built on an 800-volt battery-electric platform</a>, costs $77,782 and has multiple engines, a big battery pack for speedy charging and luxury interior choices, including reclining seats and a back entertainment system.</p>



<p>What&rsquo;s more, Li Auto <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/03/li-auto-the-first-profitable-ev-maker-in-china-revs-up-investor-interest/">also plans to spend</a> almost $1 billion to build more than 5,000 high-speed EV charge points across China, the country accounts for roughly 60% of EV sales globally.</p>



<p>Investors will also be <a href="https://ir.lixiang.com/zh-hans/news-releases/news-release-details/li-auto-inc-announces-adoption-nvidias-next-generation/">excited about Li Auto&rsquo;s partnership</a> with <strong>Nvidia</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nvda-stock-quote/"><strong>NVDA</strong></a></span>), which aims to improve technologies for self-driving cars; this market could potentially be worth $62 billion by 2026.</p>



<p>Finally, <a href="https://carnewschina.com/2024/04/22/li-auto-slashed-prices-by-4200-usd-to-intensify-competition-in-china/#:~:text=One%20of%20the%20bestselling%20Chinese,Li%20L6%20crossover%20remained%20unchanged.">Li Auto is slashing the prices</a> of all of its models except for the newly released Li L6, heating up the competition in China, especially for <strong>Tesla </strong>(NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/"><strong>TSLA</strong></a></span>); no surprise analysts rate the stock a &ldquo;Strong Buy,&rdquo; <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/li/forecast">with an 83% upside</a>.</p>



<p>The Li L7, L8, L9 and the Li Mega MPV all have their prices cut between 18,000 and 30,000 yuan. The Li Mega type has the biggest price drop.</p>



<h2>Rivian Automotive (RIVN)</h2>

As a result of these numbers, Rivian reiterated plans to make 57,000 cars this year.</p>



<p>The 57,000-car target is doable, considering the company celebrated the production of its 100,000th electric car in April, thanks to the addition of 623,000 square feet to its main factory site in Normal, Illinois.</p>



<p>Furthermore, Rivian&rsquo;s smaller and less expensive R2 and R3X models will attract customers looking for competitive prices, as affordability remains the biggest concern in greater EV adoption. </p>



<p>Despite these accomplishments, Rivian&rsquo;s stock is down 48% in 2024 owing to losing money on each vehicle in the previous several quarters. By 2024, it intends to improve cost management and production efficiency. Rivian&rsquo;s finances are still robust, with $7.86 billion in cash to fund its present and future expansion, but $16.8 billion in losses within three years makes investors wary.</p>



<p>Still, Rivian is doing all it can to allay these fears; pausing work on a new $5 billion factory in Georgia to save over $2.25 billion. When fully operational, the factory, built on a 2,000-acre plot of land east of Atlanta, could help make up to 400,000 cars each year. </p>



<h2>Ford (F)</h2>

<p>Despite the division&rsquo;s deficit, Ford is <a href="https://www.engadget.com/ford-expects-to-reach-its-ev-production-goal-a-year-later-than-planned-101804539.html#:~:text=Ford%20CFO%20John%20Lawler%20said,affects%20that%20goal%2C%20as%20well.">aiming to produce 2 million EVs</a> by 2026 by reducing capital expenses and shifting funds to this area. On top of this, <a href="https://electrek.co/2024/02/07/ford-buildin-low-cost-ev-platform-tesla/">Ford to establish a low-cost EV platform</a> to make cheaper vehicles with larger profits.</p>



<p>Ford wants to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbeYOmitf1A">produce 600,000 electrified vehicles</a> by 2024, therefore its North American assembly sites are being upgraded, including Oakville in Ontario. By 2026, Ford plans to export automobiles from BlueOval City, its advanced automotive manufacturing hub in Tennessee.</p>



<p>Moreover, Ford&rsquo;s brand-new three-row electric cars, <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-f-defers-launch-three-151600357.html">expected to launch in 2027</a>, will help take advantage of new battery technologies.</p>



<p>Overall, Ford&rsquo;s sales, earnings and cash flow all went up in the first quarter of 2024. Even though the economy is volatile due to sticky inflation and waning EV demand, the Ford Blue, Ford Model e and Ford Pro divisions <a href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2023/05/02/first-quarter-2023-financial-results.html">will keep its finances stable</a> and help it grow; a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/F/forecast">20% upside</a> and &ldquo;Moderate Buy&rdquo; rating accentuates Ford&rsquo;s robustness.</p>

<p>Bankruptcy is simply a legal proceeding in which companies seek relief when unable to repay their debts. Although it relieves the debt burden, the effects of bankruptcy on a stock are often fatal. Publicly traded companies that declare bankruptcy see their share prices fall dramatically.&nbsp; The hint of bankruptcy alone is often enough to send shares plummeting toward zero.</p>



<p>Fortunately for investors, there are easily identifiable metrics that measure a given company&rsquo;s risk of bankruptcy. Unfortunately, investors often disregard such metrics for various reasons.</p>



<p>The companies discussed below are all flashing red in that regard. Each is susceptible to bankruptcy based on those aforementioned metrics. For that reason, investors should avoid placing their capital in said firms.&nbsp;</p>



<h2>Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (DJT)</h2>

A lot has been written about the stock and its connection to former president Donald Trump.</p>



<p>Let&rsquo;s start first with the evidence that the stock is at high risk of a bankruptcy. Investors can simply refer to something known as the Altman Z score in order to discern a given company&rsquo;s bankruptcy risk. Those with a score below 1.8 are considered to be at high risk of bankruptcy in the next two years. DJT stock carries an<a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/term/zscore/DJT"> Altman Z score of -9.78</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Despite its troubles, Trump Media &amp; Technology Group continues to thrive. The stock has risen of late due to multiple pieces of news. One that I find particularly interesting is that <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/05/djt-stock-trump-media-fires-accounting-firm-hires-replacement-after-sec-charges/">the company fired its auditor</a>. That firm has been accused of massive fraud by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Should investors believe the firm now has a clean auditor as it always desired or that the company chose its previous auditor for obvious reasons? I&rsquo;ll leave that up to you to decide. Regardless, DJT stock is highly dangerous and at risk of bankruptcy.</p>



<h2>Rivian (RIVN)</h2>

RIVN stock price predictions"><div>Source: Tada Images / Shutterstock.com</div></div><p><strong>Rivian</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rivn-stock-quote/"><strong>RIVN</strong></a></span>) stock, like DJT shares above, is clearly at risk of bankruptcy in the next two years. It also has a <a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/term/zscore/RIVN">negative Altman Z score</a> indicating that it could fold at any point in the next 24 months.</p>



<p>There are a couple of points there that investors should be aware of as they pertain to the company&rsquo;s most recent earnings report. Primarily, the statement that the company expects it <a href="https://rivian.com/newsroom/article/rivian-releases-first-quarter-2024-financial-results">will reach gross profitability by the fourth quarter</a> of this year.</p>



<p>The point I want to make there is that gross profit is simply the difference between revenues and cost of revenues. Even if Rivian reaches gross profitability in the fourth quarter it will continue to produce large net losses.</p>



<p>Case in point, the company reported a gross loss of $527 million in the first quarter. That led to a net loss of $1.484 billion. The company lost nearly $39,000 on every vehicle it delivered in Q1.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Even if Rivian ends up avoiding bankruptcy, investors should stay away from the company until it can substantially improve its business overall.</p>



<h2>Peloton Interactive (PTON)</h2>

Peloton layoffs"><div>Source: JHVEPhoto / Shutterstock.com</div></div><p>Investors should be able to easily find several good reasons to avoid<strong> Peloton</strong> <strong>Interactive</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/pton-stock-quote/"><strong>PTON</strong></a></span>)&nbsp;stock. Perhaps the most obvious is that the pandemic is over and Peloton&rsquo;s primary catalyst no longer exists. You, me and everyone else have a full array of exercise options available to us. No pandemic lockdowns are preventing us from engaging in any form of exercise week choose.</p>



<p>That&rsquo;s an easy narrative to understand in relation to Peloton&rsquo;s business. Let&rsquo;s put some numbers to it because it makes the risk all that much more obvious. Peloton&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/term/ebitda-growth-3y/PTON">EBITDA growth rate is negative 193%</a> over the last three years. It is headed in the direction of increasing losses at an astounding rate. There is essentially no hope left for the company and like the two firms above, Peloton is<a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/term/zscore/PTON"> extraordinarily risky as measured by its Altman Z score</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Investing in the stock is much more likely to result in heartache than elation.</p>

Buyer Beware: 3 Stocks Teetering on the Brink of Bankruptcy in 2024

<p><strong>Lucid</strong>&lsquo;s<strong> </strong>(NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/lcid-stock-quote/"><strong>LCID</strong></a></span>) first-quarter results, reported on May 6, were uninspiring, and the valuation of Lucid stock remains excessive. On the other hand, I&rsquo;m now 70% to 80% sure the automaker&rsquo;s upcoming Gravity SUV will be at least popular enough to keep the company afloat for the foreseeable future. I also think there&rsquo;s a 50% to 60% chance the EV will meaningfully boost Lucid stock over the longer term.</p>



<p>Further, as I pointed out<a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/04/the-lucid-stock-turnaround-story-from-high-priced-hype-to-undervalued-opportunity/"> in a previous column</a>, Lucid can capitalize on <strong>Tesla</strong>&lsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/"><strong>TSLA</strong></a>) problems. It can also benefit significantly from selling software subscriptions to its customers. And finally, Lucid stock, along with all the other American EV names, will be strong in the short- to medium-term.</p>



<p>Still, I continue to view Lucid stock as too risky to buy or hold at this point. Consequently, I still recommend unloading the shares.</p>



<h2>Unimpressive Q1 Results and an Excessive Valuation</h2>



<p>Lucid&rsquo;s top line climbed 15.6%<a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4100691-lucid-gaap-eps-of-0_30-misses-0_05-revenue-of-172_74m-misses-9_74m"> versus the same period a year</a> earlier to $172.7 million. That&rsquo;s not particularly tremendous growth for an EV startup supposedly on its way to becoming a leading automaker. And the firm delivered fewer than 2,000 vehicles. Conversely, <strong>Rivian</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rivn-stock-quote/"><strong>RIVN</strong></a></span>), an EV startup that I have been and remain enthusiastic about, <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4101758-rivian-non-gaap-eps-of-1_24-misses-0_08-revenue-of-1_2b-beats-30m">delivered nearly 13,600 </a>EVs in Q1, while its revenue soared 81.5% year-over-year to $1.2 billion.</p>



<p>On the valuation front, Lucid stock <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/LCID/key-statistics">has a very high price-sales ratio</a> of 9.5 times. That&rsquo;s an especially elevated valuation in light of its uninspiring growth and the tough competition that it&rsquo;s currently facing in the luxury EV sedan market.</p>



<h2>The Positive Outlook of the Gravity SUV</h2>



<p>Encouragingly for Lucid and Lucid stock, the Gravity <a href="https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1143044_lucid-gravity-test-drive-review-prototype-alpha">received a very positive</a> review from <em>Green Car Reports</em> in an article published on May 1. After viewing a prototype of the EV, which is still slated to hit the market later this year, the publication called its appearance &ldquo;pretty sharp.&rdquo; Moreover, <em>Green Car </em>highlighted the fact that the Gravity will be unique because it&rsquo;s a crossover with three available rows of seating. Also favorably, the publication compared the EV&rsquo;s handling to that of a <strong>Porsche </strong>(OTCMKTS:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/drpry-stock-quote/"><strong>DRPRY</strong></a></span>) Cayenne or one of <strong>Mercedes</strong>&lsquo; (OTCMKTS:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/mbgaf-stock-quote/"><strong>MBGAF</strong></a></span>) vehicles. And finally ,the reviewer wrote that the Gravity &ldquo;promises to deliver family comfort for a daily commute and sporty driving dynamics for the long way home in a way no other electric seven-seater yet does.&rdquo;</p>



<p>In my previous column, I noted <em>Newsweek</em> was also generally upbeat about the Gravity. I pointed out the EV had a high expected maximum range of 440 miles. Additionally, I noted that the Gravity&rsquo;s price tag is competitive with Tesla&rsquo;s Model X and&nbsp;Rivian&rsquo;s&nbsp; R1S.</p>



<p>Adding to my optimism about the Gravity, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson, speaking on the company&rsquo;s earnings call, <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/article/4689941-lucid-group-inc-lcid-q1-2024-earnings-call-transcript">stated the EV&rsquo;s</a> total addressable market will be six times as large as its sedans that are currently on the market. He also reported a survey conducted by a different firm showed two-thirds of those looking to buy electric SUVs would consider buying such a vehicle made by Lucid.</p>



<h2>The Bottom Line on Lucid Stock</h2>



<p>As I noted previously, Tesla has received a great deal of negative publicity. That positions Lucid to benefit from the situation. Further, Lucid, like other EV makers, <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/05/the-3-best-auto-stocks-to-buy-in-may-2024/">is poised to generate</a> significant revenue over the longer term by selling software subscriptions. Finally, the 100% tariffs that President Joe Biden is imposing on Chinese EV imports are likely to boost Lucid stock and its peers in the short-to-medium term.</p>



<p>Despite all of these positive points, the high valuation of Lucid&rsquo;s shares and <a href="https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/execution-risk">the execution risk</a> posed by the Gravity continue to make the shares a sell for now.  </p>
