Asymco's Horace Dediu has released new data that shows Apple taking two-thirds of the total profit from smartphone sales around the world in the second quarter of 2011.
From the eight major smartphone makers (Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony-Ericsson, Motorola, HTC, Apple, RIM) across the globe, four of the manufacturers reported losses in Q2. The other four all watched Apple, selling only two phones (iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4), take 66.3% of the profit; this is up from 57% in Q1. Meanwhile, Samsung's share went to 15%, RIM at 11%, and HTC at 7.4%, a new high for the Taiwan-based company.
Pretty impressive considering some of these companies were around years before Apple began selling the iPhone.
