'We Need To Drive Innovation' Says Emily Paxhia Demanding More Capital Flow In The Cannabis Industry

“We do deserve access to the capital markets. We deserve more capital flowing in because we need to drive innovation,” said Emily Paxhia, founding partner and managing partner of Poseidon Investment Management at the recent Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Miami.

If you missed Paxhia in Miami, you'll be glad to hear that Paxhia is a featured speaker at the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Conference in Chicago, Sept. 27-28.

Paxhia's powerful insights come at a critical time for the cannabis industry. As she pointed out, being aware of free cash flow is commendable, but she stressed that the sector demands more. "I also think this industry deserves better,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of innovation for the sector's growth, Paxhia argued against letting the cannabis sector stagnate and decline. "We don’t want to become a stagnant industry and one just on a decline. We want to grow, we want to thrive,” she insisted.

Among the challenges facing the cannabis industry is the issue of custody, something which Paxhia acknowledges as having heard from Jason Weil in the context of the TSX. Addressing these challenges, Paxhia believes, can open up avenues for increased liquidity and volume in the industry, which are vital for its growth. "That’s something that could potentially help. We need more liquidity, we need more volume," she said.

Furthermore, Paxhia shed light on the cascading effects of such challenges and their impact on the larger industry ecosystem. “This trickles down. It’s not just the public companies. We invest in private companies. We invest in early-stage companies. And we see the impact because it does impact the entire ecosystem of this industry.”

As the industry moves through this pivotal period, Paxhia remains optimistic, advising caution and wisdom to steer through. "I think we just have to be very wise and get through this time and we will thrive."
