Social media is buzzing about "Stranger Things," which is set in a small Indiana town in 1983 and stars Winona Ryder. In fact, peak social conversations about “Stranger Things” have topped peak social mentions of hit Netflix documentary series “Making a Murderer” by 37 percent.

In fact, social media mentions of “Stranger Things” are roughly on-par with mentions of Netflix hits “House of Cards” and “Jessica Jones.” Peak mentions of “Stranger Things” have so far not reached the peak levels achieved by Netflix’s most-discussed shows “Fuller House,” "Daredevil,” and “Orange is the New Black,” but it certainly appears as if Netflix has once again struck programming gold with its new series.

A hit show might be just what Netflix needs to take attention off of its slumping share price and disappointing Q2 subscriber growth numbers. After a second consecutive post-earning sell-off, Netflix is now down 18.1 percent in 2016.
