President-elect Donald Trump had yet another blatant change of heart on Twitter Tuesday morning when he posted the following message:
Once the final votes are tallied, Trump will likely have lost the popular vote by more than 2 million votes. However, Trump's tweet comes after the electoral college delivered him a surprising victory on Election Day.
Four years ago, when President Barack Obama won the election, Trump was singing a different tune:
And of course, in the weeks ahead of the 2016 election, when it appeared he was losing ground in the polls, Trump repeatedly claimed that the election was “rigged.” Not surprisingly, all the talk of election rigging has ceased following his victory.
Trump has repeatedly changed his opinions on a number of issues in recent years. Most of the time, the changes are trivial, such as his opinions of House Speaker Paul Ryan or former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
However, voters struggled with the fact that Trump has also changed his opinion on a number of critical policy issues as well, such as abortion.
Back in 1999, Trump told NBC News, “I am pro-choice in every respect.”
“I am very, very proud to say that I’m pro-life,” Trump said in Cleveland earlier this year.
Trump’s stance on the Iraq War has also shifted over the years, a fact he repeatedly chose not to acknowledge during the debates.
In a 2002 interview, Howard Stern asked Trump if he supported the invasion of Iraq and Trump had this to say:
“Yeah, I guess so. I wish the first time it was done correctly.”
Trump’s shifting views on the electoral college have no impact on his potential policy decisions while in office. However, his shifting stances on issues central to his campaign platform have left both critics and supporters uneasy about how much Trump will actually follow through with his campaign promises.
