Sir Nick Faldo, professional golfer and winner of six major championships, stopped by CNBC's Squawk Box where he talked about about the position of being a brand ambassador, the Faldo Series, course design and being a golf analyst for CBS.
Faldo teed off with his endorsement deal from Scotch whiskey brand Glenmorangie, referring to himself as a conducer as well.
"I like to team up with people that I enjoy doing business with, and the guys that are fun to be around as well. It's not, you know, the era of being a golfer when, sure, you signed everything just to, and then you went off and played golf," said Faldo.
According to Faldo, the relationships golfers have with brands is different now, saying that they have more involved relationships with the products they endorse now.
"You want to help them as best you can…We have some fun ideas for golf days," Faldo said in regards to Glenmorangie.
At points, Faldo is called on to meet with brand clients and do media events, which he called "doing a bit of entertaining."
The conversation then shifted to the Faldo Series, which has gone on now for 17 seasons and will soon be coming to North America. The Faldo Series gives youth, both male and female ages 12 to 21, a chance to experience high-stakes tournaments while receiving expert advice from professional golfers. Currently, the series covers Europe, Asia, and a small part of South America. Faldo said that the PGA Tour is very interested in becoming involved in the series, and the that they have their support.
Faldo also talked about designing golf courses, of which he's done 26, and is now on number 27.
"Cambodia is my next big one," said Faldo in regards to the 36 hole project.
He also recently signed with CBS CBS as a golf analyst. Faldo joked that describing players' poor shots for broadcast leads to getting no Christmas cards in the mail.
