Kroger's CEO Thinks A Trump White House Is Good For Business

Kroger Co KR's CEO Rodney McMullen was a guest on CNBC on Friday and shared his optimism surrounding a Donald Trump presidency.

Shares of Kroger have gained more than 6 percent over the past five days, which may indicate thus far that the Trump presidency could be good for the grocery chain.

Economic Growth Ahead?

"What we are really excited about, and this would be for any administration, is getting the economy to continue growing," McMullen said. "Growth helps everyone so that creates jobs for all Americans and when people get back to work and continuing to move ahead in a career obviously they have more money to spend at groceries stores and everywhere else."

McMullen continued that he expects to see a boost in business now that the election has concluded. He added that heading into the election, many consumers were hesitant of making large purchases, but this trend wasn't as apparent within the grocery store.

Pharma

Kroger is also a major player in the pharmacy business, and the executive pointed out that healthcare issues were also front and center during the election. The executive is hopeful that the president and Congress can work together to create "stability" and "comfort" within the healthcare system.
