Facebook 'Likes' Say A Lot About Your Political Views

Republicans and Democrats tend to agree on most of the tenants of basic freedom, liberty and democracy. On the other hand, policies such as gun control, taxes and the use of military force are often divisive issues.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Republicans and Democrats also differ in areas such as music taste, favorite actors, movies, books and athletes.

The Wall Street Journal used data from Facebook Inc FB "likes" to come to its conclusion. A user "likes" something on Facebook by deliberately clicking the "like" button. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has 9.1 million "likes" and the Presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has 4.3 million "likes."

There was some overlap between users who "liked" both candidates. For the data collection, Facebook removed these people and compiled a list of what other items Republican and Democratic differ on.

Trump supports prefer country music, while Clinton's supporters like pop. However, the list of top five musicians is dominated by party-line supporters.

Ted Nugent, a vocal Trump supporter, tops the list of musicians among the Republican base, while Clinton's supporters like Beyoncé and Lady Gaga — both of whom have lent support to Clinton.

Similarly, Trump supports show an interest toward TV shows such as "Duck Dynasty," the reality show in which the Robertson family are known Trump supporters. Democrat supporters list "The Rachel Maddow Show," "The Daily Show" and "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," all of which present news through a liberal slant.

Republicans listed John Wayne and Adam Sandler as two actors they like, and it is no coincident that both are registered Republicans. Naturally, George Takei, a Democrat and Clinton supporter, is the most commonly liked actor among Clinton's base.

Trump's fans are mostly watching religious-themed movies, such as "God's Not Dead," "Son Of God" and "Heaven Is For Real." Clinton's fans prefer Hollywood blockbuster hits, including "Harry Potter," "The Hunger Games" and even the classic hit "Titanic."

Finally, Republicans like mixed martial artist star Ronda Rousey the most, despite her public statements that she won't vote for Trump. Tennis star Serena Williams tops the list of favorite athletes among Clinton supporters.
