Was Groupon's Super Bowl Ad That Bad?

Groupon made an impact with its Super Bowl ads last night, and depending on who you ask, the ads might have hit a nerve. The company had three ads between the pregame show and the game, which all featured spoofs of saving causes such as endangered whales, the Brazil rainforests, and Tibet. The ads were tied with the theme of saving money. Company CEO Andrew Mason is known for his quirky humor, and after the ads appeared last night, there were plenty of people calling for others to end their subscriptions to Groupon. You have to wonder whether this will affect the company's image over the long haul, or if it's just going to increase Groupon's awareness. With the negative attention right now, will it push back a company IPO? We think not.
