In a keynote speech on Sunday, Google GOOG CEO Eric Schmidt revealed that mobile usage has grown much faster than anticipated. Currently, YouTube sees 200 million mobile playbacks a day. Internet searches peak much higher through mobile devices than through their desktop internet counterparts during periods of high-volume searching, such as during the Super Bowl.
This makes a case for increased mobile advertising campaigns. With the increasing use of mobile internet, there is a lucrative opportunity for advertisers to make the most of this booming technology. Display advertising is currently a $17 billion business globally, but Schmidt predicts it could hit the $200 billion mark.
“This is the future and everyone will adapt,” Schmidt said. “Because people are fundamentally better off with a better and smarter and more empowered, if you will, customer.”
