The Golden Globes on Sunday night again proved that the media industry is changing. The award show suggested that traditional cable groups no longer hold all the cards when it comes to producing content for the masses and streaming services have begun to take over mainstream TV.
Netflix, Inc. NFLX justified its plans to increase spending on original programming after Kevin Spacey won a Best Actor award for his role in "House of Cards." The show received several other nominations including Best TV series. Netflix's critically-acclaimed "Orange Is The New Black" also received two nominations.

Perhaps the most telling victory was the Best TV Comedy/Music Series for "Transparent." The show, which chronicles the life of a transgender father, was produced by Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN and marks the Internet mogul's first foray into original programming.
While both Amazon and Netflix have been working to build their libraries of content by making deals with Time Warner Inc. TWX and CBS Corporation CBS to get the rights to programming from networks like HBO and Showtime, the two are also hoping to grow their network of original shows. Netflix was the first to break in to that space, but Amazon's recent success solidified the changing landscape for TV production.
