Italy To Google: You Owe Us €300 Million In Back Taxes

The Wall Street Journal, Italian governmental authorities are seeking around €300 million (approximately $326 million) in back taxes from Alphabet Inc GOOG's Google business. The Wall Street Journal, citing "Italy's financial police", reported that Google evaded paying €300 million in taxes between 2008 and 2013. The company is accused of lowering its tax liabilities by claiming its domicile in Ireland and not in Italy. Italy's demands for back taxes follows news reports that Alphabet's Google has agreed to pay £130 million (approximately $185 million) in back taxes to United Kingdom authorities. A Google spokesman told the Wall Street Journal that the company "complies with the tax laws in every country where we operate" and that it continues working with the relevant authorities.
