It’s a head-to-head race between Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN’s Jeff Bezos and America Movil SAB de CV (ADR) AMX’s Carlos Slim Helú for the World’s fourth richest person spot. And, it looks like, once again, Jeff Bezos is ahead.
Following Amazon’s top and bottom line beats, and the subsequent spike in the stock price, Bezos’ net worth ascended to roughly $60 billion. On the other hand, Slim’s wealth fell to $55 billion on Thursday, after shares of his company tumbled on an earnings miss, shrinking profit margins in Mexico and declining EBITDA – especially in Colombia.

So, while Bezos made about $6 billion on his firm’s earnings call, Slim lost about $3.4 billion, and this helped the former beat the latter in terms of net wealth. The chart below illustrates the year-and-a-half long race that the two billionaires have been running. As it can be appreciated, Bezos’ fortune passed Slim’s for the first time in November 2015; however, in February, the Mexican businessman displaced him once again.
Another tech entrepreneur who saw his wealth spike recently was Mark Zuckerberg, who made $3.6 billion off Facebook Inc FB’s financial results. Zuckerberg is now the eighth-richest person in the world with $51 billion.
