Google's Madrid Office Was Just Raided

Spanish authorities raided an Alphabet Inc GOOG owned office on Thursday.

According to Reuters, Spanish officials raided Google's head office in country's capital Madrid on Thursday in a tax probe. The publication cited a spokeswoman for Google who said in a statement the company has been complying with all fiscal legislation in Spain and is working with authorities to answer all of their questions.

The raid was ordered by a court in Madrid following a request by Spanish tax authorities. The raid comes just one month after Google's office in France was raided by French authorities on a similar suspicion of tax evasion.

Reuters added that the raid in France was aimed at establishing if Google's office in Ireland has a permanent base of operation and whether the company was meeting its tax obligations.

Google's business throughout Europe has attracted the attention and irk of many politicians and lawmakers as the company pays little tax in the continent and reports almost all of its sales in Ireland, Reuters noted.

Google is said to be making use of a tax loophole in international law and its staff in Ireland oversee the final steps of securing sales and contracts.
