Earlier Thursday, Apple Inc. AAPL CEO Tim Cook presented the company’s new line of Mac computers, stating that “the Mac is still incredibly important,” and pointing out that this week was the 25 anniversary of the first Apple laptop computer, the Powerbook.
Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller then took the stage to describe the new line of computers. He started with the MacBook Pro.
What We Know So Far
- The new Macbook Pro will be available in 13-inch and 15-inch versions.
- The 13-inch version is 17 percent thinner than its predecessor and only weighs 3 pounds, slightly more than the 13.3-inch Dell XPS 13 Touch (2016) but marginally less than the 13.3-inch Lenovo Group Limited (ADR) LNVGY ThinkPad 13.
- The new Macbook Pro comes with a Radeon Pro 14nm GPU. Some of the best gaming computers come with NVIDIA Corporation NVDA's GeForce GPUs.
- Apple's new Macbook Pro includes an Intel Corporation INTC Core i5/i7 Dual-Core processor, pretty much in line with the processors boasted by the gaming computers above.
- The new Macbook Pro has 10 hours of battery life, largely the same as its predecessor, but considerably less than other computers out there. For instance, the HP Inc HPQ ZBook 15 G3 offers 15 hours, same as the Dell XPS 13.
Update: Here are some spec comparisons Apple shared in the event.
