Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research detailed the results of checks conducted on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) through 11 Apple stores across California, New York, Washington and Illinois, as well as 600 new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users.
7 Plus Outsells 7
The checks revealed that the larger iPhone 7 has been outselling the regular version, two to one — meaning that for every regular iPhone 7 sold, two larger 7 Pluses were sold.
The most popular configuration for the iPhone 7 proved to be the 128 GB as compared to the 16 GB in the iPhone 6. In addition, the 128 GB iPhone 7 was 15 percent more popular than the 16 GB iPhone 6.
The most popularly selling color for the iPhone 7 was the matte Black, as compared to the Golden iPhone 6.
ASPs Will Rise
“iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB has an ASP of $869; regular iPhone 7 128 GB's has an ASP of $749 vs. iPhone 6 16GB had an ASP of $649, and 64GB iPhone 6 Plus has an ASP of $849,” Chowdhry mentioned.
The analyst noted that in 2014, about 30 percent of the iPhone 6 units sold were the Plus version, while in 2016, over 60 percent would be the iPhone 7 Plus.
Chowdhry believes that ASPs would rise as customers continue to choose higher memory and the larger configuration of the Plus model.
