Adjusted EPS of $0.95&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beat the analyst consensus estimate of $0.74.&nbsp;</a>
Underlying&nbsp;cost of goods sold (COGS) per hectoliter increased&nbsp;0.9% in constant currency.
Gross profit climbed 25% Y/Y to $963.5 million. Operating income for the quarter jumped to $314.3 million, with a margin of 10.3%.
Molson Coors Beverage held $458.4 million in cash and equivalents as of March-end. Operating cash flow for the three months totaled $25.4 million.
&#8220;Strong America&#8217;s volume and favorable net pricing across both business units resulted in double-digit top-line growth while volume leverage and ongoing cost savings drove meaningful margin expansion in the quarter,&#8221; said CFO Tracey Joubert.
Outlook: Molson Coors reaffirmed its FY24 net sales outlook at a low single-digit increase <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance">versus 2023 on a constant currency basis.</a>

Cues From The Last Session:
Stocks closed Monday&#8217;s session on a positive note, although trading was marked by some degree of volatility. The major indices opened the session higher, as the positive momentum from Friday carried over into the new week, with Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) leading from the front. They stayed above the unchanged line for the better part of the morning before reversing course in late afternoon trading.
While apprehension ahead of the week&#8217;s key earnings and data was attributed to the weakness, the stock recovered thereafter to close higher for a second straight session. Market participants also blamed the intraday slide on an increase in the U.S. Treasury&#8217;s June quarter borrowing estimates.
The gains were led by consumer discretionary stocks, while communication services stocks dragged.

Insights From Analysts:
Ahead of the Fed meeting, Wharton Professor Jeremy Siegel, Senior Economist to&nbsp;WisdomTree, said in his weekly commentary, that the market is currently pricing in only slim chances of rate cuts this year. On Wednesday, the economist expects Powell to repeat the rhetoric that the central bank doesn&#8217;t have enough confidence to lower rates.
Siegel expects the press to probe as to whether the Fed was contemplating rate hikes. &#8220;Powell's answer to that may be illuminating,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It is quite possible with two more inflation prints before the June meeting, that the Fed can get enough information to signal imminent cuts. I'm not ruling out a rate cut at the June meeting.&#8221;
Fundstrat expressed confidence in the market recovery taking root. &#8220;Stocks survive &#8216;fragility test&#8217; of April. Roadmap for May more constructive = recovery towards S&amp;P 5,200,&#8221; said the firm in a post on X.

Of the 11 S&amp;P sector classes, eight sectors reported year-over-year earnings growth, led by communication services, utilities, IT, and consumer discretionary sectors. On the other hand, healthcare, energy, and materials have reported year-over-year earnings declines.

Earnings from Apple and Amazon could be market-moving, given the weighting of these stocks in the S&amp;P 500 Index. Also, Apple is considered a bellwether, given its exposure to consumers. Morgan Stanley&#8217;s Erik Woodring expects Apple to report a slightly beat but guide June quarter revenue down. 
Investors are likely to keep a close eye on performance in China, Apple&#8217;s updated capital return framework, and capital expenditures, the analyst said.
That said, the analyst is positive on the stock ahead of its annual Worldwide Developers&#8217; Conference due on June 10th. &#8220;With Apple&#8217;s biggest WWDC event on June 10th, we&#8217;d buy post-earnings weakness,&#8221; he said.
Amazon will likely continue to report double-digit sales and profit growth in the first quarter, according to Telsey Advisory Group analyst Joseph Feldman. The analyst premised his optimism on the strength of online spending, gains from expanded merchandise and faster fulfillment, and stabilization (and growth) of AWS. 
&#8220;Importantly, we expect [a] greater focus on profits supported by the growth of higher margin categories and services, such as advertising, media, and AWS (partly helped by AI-related upgrades), the redesigned distribution network&#8230;.. and cost savings,&#8221; he said.

Will Earnings Cheer Continue To Buoy Markets? Apple, Amazon, Pfizer, Coinbase Lead Flurry Of Q1 Reports This Week

Sam Adams maker Boston Beer Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SAM#NYSE">SAM</a>) isn&#8217;t seeing its cannabis-infused beverage segment tap revenue <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/beer">from its flagship lager</a>. 
What Happened: The company disclosed its financial results for the first quarter, which ended on March 30. Its performance exceeded analyst expectations, too.

<li>The company reported a net revenue of $426.1 million </li>
<li>That&#8217;s more than 3.1% higher than analyst estimates of $413.21 million.</li>
<li>Earnings per share (EPS) of $1.04 was above the analyst estimate for EPS of 9 cents.</li>

Sam Adams likely owes some of its success to the backlash Anheuser-Busch Inbev (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BUD#NYSE">BUD</a>) faced from conservative beer drinkers. The Bud Light parent company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/02/37398043/why-bud-light-parent-ab-inbev-shares-are-taking-a-hit-today">saw sales plummet</a> on the heels of a promotional campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
THC&#8217;s so-called cannibalization of alcohol doesn&#8217;t seem to resonate at Sam Adams, nor does it track at Tilray Brands Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLRY#NASDAQ">TLRY</a>). The Florida-based cannabis company, which <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/10/35031971/tilray-completes-acquisition-of-8-beer-brands-from-bud-light-parent-anheuser-busch">purchased craft beer brands </a>from AB Inbev, <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/cannabis/craft-beer-is-saving-tilray-from-cannabis-vegetable-woes-1">saw</a> alcohol revenue spike 117% to $47 million.

Why It Matters: Even before Boston Beer first <a href="https://www.bostonbeer.com/news/2021/05/the-boston-beer-company-to-begin-research-and-development-of-non-alcoholic-cannabis-beverages" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">entered</a> the cannabis beverage market, industry analysts (i.e., Deloitte) <a href="https://www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/ca/Documents/c-and-ip/ca-en-consumer-nurturing-new-growth-en-aoda-may31.pdf">predicted</a> that alcohol and tobacco companies would utilize M&amp;A or establish new product segments &#8220;to avoid losing market share to competing cannabis products.&#8221;
But, as it turns out, Boston Beer&#8217;s customers are still enjoying Sam Adams in addition to new THC-infused items <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/22/05/27344695/the-boston-beer-company-introduces-teapot-a-new-line-of-cannabis-infused-iced-teas" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">such as</a> Teapot.
Teapot, the 40-year-old company boasts, is Canada&#8217;s premier cannabis tea brand. The company did not disclose THC beverage sales numbers in its most recent financial <a href="https://investors.bostonbeer.com/news-releases/news-release-details/boston-beer-reports-first-quarter-financial-results-1">report</a>. 
"We saw a unique opportunity as consumer relationships with alcohol evolve, especially in a post-COVID world, where cannabis acceptance is on the rise. This convergence of trends led us to create <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/cannabis-beverages" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">cannabis-infused beverages</a>," Paul Weaver, head of cannabis at Boston Beer, told Benzinga last year.
Teapot is not listed among Boston Beer&#8217;s so-called &#8220;core brands&#8221; (Sam Adams, Angry Orchard Hard Cider, Dogfish Head, Truly Hard Seltzer and Twisted Tea). 
Boston Beer also backs Uncle Arnie&#8217;s, a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/06/32829540/thc-beverage-uncle-arnies-raises-capital-with-investments-from-samuel-adams-founders">cannabis-infused beverage startup</a>. 
Other beer giants aren&#8217;t bullish on the THC drink segment. Molson Coors Beverages Co. Traditionally, <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/consumer-staples/">consumer staples stocks</a> are seen by the Street primarily as safe havens during recessions. But that tradition was formed during a 50-year period in which America experienced very little of what we&rsquo;re seeing now: relatively strong economic growth and relatively high inflation. During such periods, some staples providers are often able to raise prices faster than their costs are climbing. As a result, these firm&rsquo;s stocks can be worth buying for conservative investors, value investors and growth-at-a-reasonable-price investors who are looking for a low-risk stock with some growth potential. Consumer staples stocks carry little risk because well-established staples providers are not going to go bankrupt and the chances of their shares tumbling tremendously are quite low. Moreover, in many cases, their valuations are quite attractive.



On the other hand, during the period when most of the Street was wrongly convinced that a recession was inevitable, many staples stocks became very expensive and some of them remain too costly. But there are some names from the category whose valuation is attractive. Here are three consumer staples stocks that are in the latter category.



<h2>Mondolez (MDLZ)</h2>

The firm says that<a href="https://seekingalpha.com/article/4671718-mondelez-international-inc-mdlz-presents-consumer-analyst-group-of-new-york-cagny-conference"> it&rsquo;s number two in the</a> chocolate category and number one in biscuits worldwide, while it&rsquo;s in third position globally in cakes and pastries.



Latin America was especially lucrative for the firm in 2023 as it raised its prices in the region by 31 percentage points, leading to a 35% increase in its sales there. In Europe and North America, it hiked its prices by 13.8% and 9.5%, respectively, producing revenue increases of 14.5% and 9.5%.



Going forward, Mondolez plans to grow through distributing to more retail outlets and acquiring other firms, CEO Dirk Van de Put said. That it will also continue to raise prices meaningfully for the foreseeable future. de Put also correctly pointed out that the firm&rsquo;s large presence in high-growth emerging markets positions it very well going forward.



Given MDLZ&rsquo;s strong growth, <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MDLZ/key-statistics">its enterprise value EBITDA ratio</a> of 15 times is quite attractive and it is one of the best consumer staples stocks to buy now.



<h2>Costco (COST)</h2>

The retailer recently <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4088317-costco-may-be-sitting-on-gold-with-its-new-business">expanded </a>into the sale of precious metals gold and silver. With the prices of those metals rapidly climbing, I believe that a meaningful number of new members will join Costco because they want to easily and quickly get their hands on some silver and gold.



Meanwhile, in March, the company&rsquo;s<a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4088735-costco-march-net-sales-up-94-yy-to-2348-billion"> net sales soared</a> 9.4% versus the same period a year earlier. Last quarter, its comparable sales <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/pr/19648661-costco-wholesale-corporation-reports-second-quarter-and-year-to-date-operating-results-for?hasComeFromMpArticle=false">climbed a healthy </a>4.8% in the U.S., excluding the impact of its gasoline revenue. In Canada, its revenue jumped 9% YOY, excluding gasoline and foreign exchange fluctuations.



Bank of America is a big fan of Costco, it<a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4091112-bofas-us-1-list-new-additions-include-csco-gs-and-spgi"> includes it</a> in its list of the best U.S. stocks. Analysts, on average, expect its earnings per share to surge to $17.4 next year, up from $14.16 in 2023.



<h2>Molson Coors (TAP)</h2>

Molson Coors (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tap-stock-quote/">TAP</a>) is clearly benefiting from the trend, along with price increases and market share gains.



Last quarter, the firm&rsquo;s <a href="https://mms.businesswire.com/media/20240430552630/en/2113345/1/5466529cEarnings_Release_Q1_2024_-_Final.pdf?download=1&amp;_gl=1&#x2A;tavrbn&#x2A;_ga&#x2A;NjI0NDE0MDA1LjE2OTA0NTIzODc.&#x2A;_ga_ZQWF70T3FK&#x2A;MTcxNDUwNjY1NS40Ny4wLjE3MTQ1MDY2NTUuNjAuMC4w">net sales jumped 10.7% </a>YOY to $2.6 billion. Meanwhile its bottom line soared 74% YOY to $203 million.



The beer maker reported that it got lifts from higher sales volumes in the Americas, along with price increases globally. Among the other factors boosting its bottom line were cost reductions and reduced raw materials costs. 



The firm&rsquo;s top brands, Coors Lite and Miller Lite, had enjoyed industry-leading growth after the Super Bowl.



Despite the company&rsquo; strong growth, its shares <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TAP/key-statistics">are changing hands</a> for a low forward price-earnings ratio of just 11.2 times.
