A company that rhymes with “oogle.”
According to
Gizmodo
, Google
GOOG
will release its own iPad 3 competitor within six months. The news comes from Google's own Eric Schmidt, who told
this Italian publication
that the company is getting ready to produce a tablet of the “highest quality.” The tablet is due in six months – roughly to two to three months after the iPad 3 is expected to debut. (Assuming you believe the iPad 3 will arrive this winter, that is; some rumors suggest it won't arrive till late spring.) And just like that 2012 got a lot more interesting.

ACTION ITEMS:

Bullish:
The iPad 3 is expected to be the tablet leader, but if Google is serious about tablet production:
  • We could see some serious Apple AAPL competition from the Google/Motorola MMI alliance. And don't expect Google to stop at tablets – the company will attack Apple in anyway it can.
Bearish:
If Google is successful in its tablet venture, it could mean that:
  • Hewlett-Packard's HPQ WebOS dreams will never come true.
  • Research in Motion RIMM may finally have to throw in the towel and adopt another OS.
  • Amazon AMZN could have a hard time pushing the Kindle Fire 2 if its competition goes beyond the iPad 3. (For immediate updates on Google, Apple, Amazon, and more, take advantage of the lightning-fast speed of Benzinga Pro.)
