According to Fortune, VMware, Inc. VMW is expected to announce a large headcount reduction plan next week.
Fortune, citing "sources close to the server virtualization giant," reported that VMware could lay off up to 900 people, representing approximately 5 percent of its total workforce.
Fortune added that while a VMware spokesman declined to comment on the report, reduction to its staff "would not be unexpected." The report pointed out that EMC Corporation EMC, the majority shareholder of VMware, has already announced its own massive headcount reduction plans.
Finally, the report noted that VMware, EMC and Dell are all "struggling" to "pull their $67 billion merger across the goal line."
