<p>Luckily for Elon Musk, the millions of lobsters trying to drag him and other high-performers back into the pot can&rsquo;t argue with results and reality (effectively, at least). And, across Elon Musk&rsquo;s many business ventures, finding a directly competitive parallel company getting effectively manhandled by Musk is simple, even as his flagship company <strong>Tesla</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/"><strong>TSLA</strong></a></span>) hits rocky roads.</p>



<p>Each of these stocks is going head-to-head with Elon Musk, and the forecast isn&rsquo;t good &mdash; meaning it&rsquo;s time to call these stocks to sell before it&rsquo;s too late.</p>



<h2>Boeing (BA)</h2>

Boeing&rsquo;s answer to <strong>SpaceX&rsquo;s</strong> routine space cargo and personnel delivery operations is the Starliner. May 6th marked Boeing&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/science/space/boeing-scrubs-starliner-crewed-launch-rcna150843">final crewed test flight</a> to the International Space Station. Following a successful flight, they&rsquo;d be fully authorized to conduct routine flights and deliveries outside Earth&rsquo;s orbit. But sensor readings on the platform&rsquo;s oxygen valves forced the scrub. <span>While we&rsquo;re grateful </span>that<span> experts caught the issue</span> before a disaster, it remains an inopportune event when Boeing desperately needs a win &mdash; any win.</p>



<p>All of this brings to mind the 2004 Aviation Week magazine headline, which <a href="https://archive.aviationweek.com/issue/20040329">asked readers,</a> &ldquo;Can Tiny SpaceX Rock Boeing?&rdquo; Increasingly, the answer is <em>Yes </em>&mdash; though SpaceX isn&rsquo;t so tiny anymore.</p>



<h2><strong>Rockwell Automation</strong> (ROK)</h2>

But Rockwell and smaller competitors should watch out as Elon Musk continually improves Tesla&rsquo;s independent robotics efforts. These robotics platforms are largely what you&rsquo;d expect: massive swinging arm assemblies moving components and frames, spraying paint compounds and similarly large-scale tasks. Robotics largely steered clear of minute, sensitive tasks with less room for error &mdash; until recently. That&rsquo;s when Elon Musk <a href="https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-optimus-sorting-battery-cells/">unveiled a new video</a> of the Optimus humanoid robot sorting battery cells, wandering about the office and even self-correcting errors.</p>



<p>While the tech isn&rsquo;t quite reaching worker replacement levels, it&rsquo;s still early. As robotics like Optimus become more dexterous, as Musk already plans with <a href="https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-optimus-hands-22-degrees-of-freedom-upgrade-2024/">greater hand articulation</a> later in the year, these types of robotics will be able to perform dangerous (but in-demand) work that&rsquo;s either too risky or costly for humans &mdash; further hurting automation and robotics competitors&rsquo; best efforts.</p>

Unfortunately for bagholders, that day is long past. Elon Musk is a major reason Truth Social&rsquo;s former value proposition no longer holds.</p>



<p>In a nutshell, Truth Social&rsquo;s time in the spotlight came amid very clear social media censorship and algorithmic silencing that increasingly became proven via document leaks and solid investigative journalism. At that time, real value lay in creating a large social media ecosystem away from the bigger names. Other platforms existed but tended to be too small or niche to gather momentum, and few personalities could bring as much hype and attention to a burgeoning social media platform as Trump&rsquo;s.</p>



<p>Protracted legal battles and (frankly) <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/19/citadel-securities-blasts-trump-media-ceo-over-djt-short-sale-letter.html">mismanagement</a> on CEO Devin Nunes&rsquo; part dashed any hopes of Truth Social becoming a viable competitor. But it didn&rsquo;t matter. Musk&rsquo;s realignment and reorientation of <strong>X</strong> served nearly every ethos Truth Social espoused, and the bet is paying off. Global X user rates are <a href="https://www.statista.com/forecasts/1146722/twitter-users-in-the-world">accelerating,</a> and advertising is finally <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/271337/twitters-advertising-revenue-worldwide/">finding its footing,</a> even as some continue calling for <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/05/tech/elon-musk-adl-lawsuit/index.html">advertising boycotts</a> against Musk. On the flip side, Truth Social&rsquo;s user rates are <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1293120/truth-social-downloads-app/">rapidly dwindling</a> and <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/04/01/trump-truth-social-revenue-2023">ad revenue</a> is nearly nonexistent.</p>



<p>I&rsquo;m hesitant to forecast Truth Social&rsquo;s future, considering how much of a wildcard Trump&rsquo;s presence introduces into the equation. Still, one thing is certain: Elon Musk did what Truth Social set out to do, cheaper and more effectively &mdash; and it&rsquo;s still relatively early in X&rsquo;s second lease at life.</p>

Because of its volatility and risk, Trump Media stock could shoot for the moon or have a crash landing. Therefore, constant vigilance and appropriate position sizing are vitally important.</p>



<p>People have strong opinions about Trump Media &amp; Technology Group, which is typically shortened to Trump Media. I encourage stock traders to set their political opinions aside with Trump Media. That&rsquo;s easier said than done, but it&rsquo;s not about blue states versus red states. It&rsquo;s about putting more green in your portfolio.</p>

<p>Here&rsquo;s an example of the headline risk associated with Trump Media. Not long ago, <em>InvestorPlace</em> contributor William White reported that Trump Media <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/05/djt-stock-alert-sec-charges-trump-media-auditor-with-massive-fraud/">auditor</a> <strong>BF Borgers CPA</strong> &ldquo;was&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/03/trump-media-auditor-charged-by-sec-with-massive-fraud-permanently-barred-from-public-company-audits.html?ref=biztoc.com">hit with charges</a>&nbsp;from the Securities and Exchange Commission.&rdquo;</p>



<p>Moreover, the SEC alleged that BF Borgers CPA took part in &ldquo;deliberate and systemic failures to comply with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.&rdquo; You might or might not feel that this development is important, but White observed that Trump Media stock dropped on the news.</p>



<h2>Trump Media: Know Why You Own It</h2>



<p>You may have heard the investment principle of &ldquo;know what you own.&rdquo; To that, I would add, &ldquo;know why you own it.&rdquo;</p>



<p>This is certainly true with a volatile asset like Trump Media stock. Any uncertainty could shake you out of the trade when the going gets rough.</p>



<p>Maybe you&rsquo;re a meme-stock traders who just wants to flip a few Trump Media shares for a quick profit. If you&rsquo;re a serious investor, though, conduct your full due diligence on Trump Media.</p>



<p>Trump Media <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/djt-stock-trump-media-price-truth-social-2a62b356">lost money</a> in 2023. Also, for the month of March, <em>Barron&rsquo;s</em> reported a 21% year-over-year decline in active users of Trump Media&rsquo;s Truth Social platform.</p>



<p>However, the story isn&rsquo;t fully written yet. Truth Social appeals to consumers leaning conservative who prefer alternative media. If you firmly believe that Truth Social can gain many followers over the long run, it could make sense to invest in Trump Media.</p>



<p>Naturally, the outcome of the presidential election will have an impact on Trump Media stock. So will various news items in the coming months, some of which may work in Trump Media&rsquo;s favor. </p>



<p>The important thing is to keep tabs on what&rsquo;s happening with Truth Social, Trump Media and Trump himself.</p>

<p>You can&rsquo;t control the news. However, you hold the keys to your success as an investor. First and foremost, understand the risks involved as volatility is to be expected. If you have a share position in Trump Media &amp; Technology Group, keep it small.</p>



<p>In addition, monitor the headlines and have an exit plan if something unfavorable happens. Finally, only get involved with this opportunity if you firmly believe in the growth of Truth Social. </p>

Truth Social (NASDAQ:DJT) Surges as Trump Trial Carries On

<p>I recently discussed the <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/04/3-50-stocks-that-will-walk-all-over-donald-trumps-dwac-holdings/">best $20 stocks</a> to buy in April. Now I&rsquo;m hunting for the best $50 stocks to buy this spring.&nbsp;Rather than select stocks under $50, I will look at all <strong>S&amp;P 500</strong> stocks trading within $5 of $50 as I write this. According to <em>Finviz.com, </em>there are <a href="https://finviz.com/screener.ashx?v=111&amp;f=idx_sp500,sh_price_o40&amp;ft=4">435 stocks</a> over $40. From here, I can manually narrow down to the stocks between $45 and $55 in the index. My quick check counts 21 in this range. That should be enough to find the three best $50 stocks.&nbsp;</p>



<p>In early April, I selected three $50 stocks that would walk all over Donald Trump&rsquo;s media stock. All three outperformed <strong>Trump Media &amp; Technology Group </strong>(NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/djt-stock-quote/"><strong>DJT</strong></a></span>) in the past month. With the markets retreating, it will be challenging to pick near-term winners. However, I&rsquo;m more concerned about providing readers with good long-term bets.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Here are my three choices for this spring and beyond.&nbsp;</p>



<h2>General Motors (GM)</h2>

GM stock has done well over the past week because of positive earnings news.&nbsp;</p>



<p>On April 23, it reported a <a href="https://investor.gm.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gm-releases-2024-first-quarter-results-and-raises-full-year">7.6% revenue increase</a> for Q1 2024, to $43.01 billion, with a net income of $2.98 billion, 24.4% higher than a year ago. As a result of the strong start, it raised its 2024 guidance to $10.8 billion in net income at the midpoint of its outlook, $300 million higher than previously.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Analysts expected it to earn <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/general-motors-company-q1-profit-increases-beats-estimates-1033275318">$2.12 a share</a>; it beat that by 48 cents. Revenues beat the consensus by $600 million.&nbsp;</p>




<p>&ldquo;In January, we outlined clear priorities for GM in 2024. They are to leverage the strength of our winning ICE portfolio, grow our EV business profitably, advance our software-defined vehicle capability, and relaunch Cruise safely while delivering strong margins and cash flows,&rdquo; stated CEO Mary Barra in the company&rsquo;s Q1 2024 <a href="https://pressroom.gm.com/gmbx/us/en/pressroom/home/news.detail.html/Pages/news/emergency_news/2024/shareholders/q1-24-ceo-letter-to-shareholders.html">Letter to Shareholders</a>.</p>




<p>I&rsquo;ve been <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/09/3-overpaid-ceos-raking-in-far-more-than-they-are-worth/">critical of Barra&rsquo;s pay</a> in the past. However, she&rsquo;s delivering outstanding results for shareholders.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<h2>Brown-Forman (BF-B)</h2>

More importantly, over the past five years, it barely generated a positive return for its shareholders, generating a five-year annualized total return, which includes dividends, of less than <a href="https://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnys/bf.b/trailing-returns">1%</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The reason for the underperformance is apparent: it&rsquo;s not growing.&nbsp;</p>



<p>However, it&rsquo;s important to note that this is a problem industrywide. <strong>Diageo </strong>(NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/deo-stock-quote/"><strong>DEO</strong></a>), <a href="https://www.lifestyleasia.com/ind/dining/drinks/biggest-liquor-companies-in-the-world-diageo-lvmh-suntory/#google_vignette">one of the world&rsquo;s largest</a> alcohol beverage companies, has suffered under the same fate in recent times. In early March, Diageo reported <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/brown-formans-stock-dips-after-jack-daniels-parents-sales-fall-short-of-estimates-d15354c4">Q3 2024</a> results that were less than flattering from a revenue perspective, with a 1% decline in sales to $1.07 billion, $60 million less than analyst expectations.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>In comparison, Brown-Forman&rsquo;s bottom line was much better, increasing by 185% to $285 million, or $0.60 a share, four cents higher than the consensus.&nbsp;</p>



<p>As part of its Q3 2024 report, CEO Lawson Whiting said that the company expects the U.S. spirits market to return to <a href="https://www.just-drinks.com/news/brown-forman-expects-us-spirits-market-to-return-to-normal-growth-later-this-year/">more normalized annual revenue growth</a> of 4%-5%. It slowed over the past 12-18 months due to consumers reducing spending combined with heavier-than-normal inventories coming out of the pandemic.</p>



<p>I&rsquo;ve always liked this company because of its family ownership. In <a href="https://investorplace.com/2013/05/4-sweet-stocks-keeping-it-in-the-family/">May 2013</a>, I recommended it and three other family-owned publicly traded businesses. Its total return from 2013 isn&rsquo;t as good as the other three, but because of its correction since the beginning of 2021, it&rsquo;s not nearly as impressive.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>As the company said in its <a href="http://v">Investor Day presentation</a> in March, it has four strategic priorities for its business through 2032: Grow the number of geographic markets it&rsquo;s in, attract new and younger drinkers, grab market share in the super-premium category, and grow its flavored drinks and RTD (ready-to-drink) product lines.&nbsp;</p>



<h2>Delta Air Lines (DAL)&nbsp;</h2>

People will travel today, tomorrow, and every day thereafter.&nbsp;</p>



<p>As I wrote in my commentary, it projected a 2024 free cash flow of $3.5 billion, giving it a free cash flow yield of 6.7%, verging on value territory, despite its stock gaining 52% over the past year.&nbsp;Regarding management, they have top talent. CEO Ed Bastian isn&rsquo;t just one of the best airline executives; he&rsquo;s one of America&rsquo;s best CEOs. </p>



<p>Interestingly, I didn&rsquo;t realize until writing this that <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/alain-bellemare-2107b11b7/">Alain Bellemare</a>, former CEO of Canada&rsquo;s <strong>Bombardier </strong>(OTCMKTS:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/bdrbf-stock-quote/"><strong>BDRBF</strong></a></span>), was hired by Delta to be executive vice president in January 2021. He did a reasonably good job at Bombardier despite a challenging situation where it had to sell its <a href="https://www.cpacanada.ca/news/pivot-magazine/bombardier-canadian-innovation">C-Series aircraft</a> to <strong>Airbus </strong>(OTCMKTS:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/eadsy-stock-quote/"><strong>EADSY</strong></a></span>) for the Canadian-made plane to survive and thrive as the A220.</p>



<p>Of all the U.S. <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/consumer-discretionary/travel/airline/">airline stocks</a>, Delta is my favorite.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The semiconductor powerhouse is on the road to recovery from its April dip and is again topping the $900 price point.</p>



<p>Nvidia is a powerhouse because it has roughly a 90% market share in supplying the high-powered graphics processing units (GPUs) that are needed to power the most advanced generative artificial intelligence and machine learning applications. That&rsquo;s why NVDA stock jumped nearly 240% in 2023, and why the company now sports a market capitalization of more than $2 trillion.</p>



<p>Anticipation is already building toward Nvidia&rsquo;s earnings report for fiscal 2025, which is scheduled to be issued May 22. While recent weeks brought some bearish sentiment that Nvidia would be unable to maintain its growth trajectory, earnings reports from <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-04-26/nvidia-shares-go-on-a-260-billion-tear-as-clients-splurge-on-ai">Nvidia&rsquo;s top customers</a> indicate that the company is likely looking at another robust report.</p>



<p>NVDA stock is up 82% in 2024 and gets an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>



<h2>Palantir Technologies (PLTR)</h2>

Not because they are companies that rely on each other, but because they are two of the hottest AI companies on the planet in recent quarters.</p>



<p>Palantir is a top contractor to governments and intelligence agencies, where it can use its AI-powered platforms to provide real-time information and predictions to military units in the field.</p>



<p>But it also has a fast-growing commercial unit that is making valuable insights available to nonmilitary clients as well. Its partnership with <strong>Oracle</strong> (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/orcl-stock-quote/"><strong>ORCL</strong></a>) will allow Palantir to make its Gotham and Artificial Intelligence Platform available to commercial clients through Oracle&rsquo;s cloud network.</p>



<p><a href="https://investors.palantir.com/news-details/2024/Palantir-Reports-Revenue-Growth-of-21-Year-Over-Year-and-Sixth-Consecutive-Quarter-of-GAAP-Profitability-GAAP-EPS-of-0.04-in-Q1-2024/">Earnings for the first quarter</a> showed $634.3 million in revenue, an increase from 21% from a year ago. Palantir projects revenue in the range of $649 million to $653 million for the second quarter and increased its full-year revenue guidance to a range of $2.677 billion and $2.689 billion.</p>



<p>While some bears are disappointed that Palantir isn&rsquo;t growing as fast as they would like, the stock&rsquo;s post-earnings slump is a valuable buying opportunity for a company that&rsquo;s just going to improve. PLTR stock is up 21% this year and gets an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>



<h2>Alphabet (GOOG)</h2>

The company&rsquo;s search engine, Google, has a 91% share of global search traffic, and its Chrome browser has a 65% market share. Its YouTube platform is the world&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.linearity.io/blog/youtube-statistics/">second-most popular video streaming service</a>.</p>



<p>Combined, those properties gives Alphabet a powerful position on the internet to target advertisers and push extensions that highlight Alphabet products.</p>



<p>GOOG stock jumped to all-time highs after the company reported first-quarter earnings of <a href="https://investorplace.com/earning-results/2024/04/goog-stock-earnings-alphabet-for-q1-of-2024/">$80.5 billion</a>, up 15% from a year ago and ahead of analyst consensus of $78.6 billion. Earnings per share was $1.89, beating consensus estimates of $1.51 per share and topping last year&rsquo;s earnings by 61%.</p>



<p>Google Cloud&rsquo;s revenue increased&nbsp;<a href="https://www.barrons.com/livecoverage/google-alphabet-microsoft-intel-earnings/card/alphabet-shares-spike-on-strong-quarterly-financial-results-d1dh4N8R9fLFwfsfFu85?mod=article_inline">28%</a>&nbsp;from a year ago and operating earnings surged more than fourfold compared to Q1 2023. Alphabet also announced plans to add $70 billion to its share repurchase program and to start paying a quarterly cash dividend.</p>



<p>GOOG stock is a powerhouse, up 22% in 2024. It gets an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>



<h2>Super Micro Computer (SMCI)</h2>

The stock had massive gains in 2023 and the first quarter of this year, but also slipped by nearly 30% in the last month as bears worried that the stock grew too much, too quickly.</p>



<p>Count me among the bulls, however. I think this is a <a href="https://investorplace.com/market360/2024/05/the-dip-in-super-micro-computer-stock-is-a-buying-opportunity-for-ai-investors/">rare buying opportunity</a> to get a powerful stock at a massive discount.</p>



<p>Super Micro Computer works closely with chip manufacturers like Nvidia to design server racks and storage clusters that are needed for companies that use Nvidia&rsquo;s GPUs to power their AI products. It has more than 1,000 customers for its high-end servers that are helping to make machine learning, AI and quantum computing possible.</p>



<p>KeyBanc Capital Market analyst Tom Blakely <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/super-micro-stock-price-rating-551cdcb0">estimates</a> that Super Micro currently has 6% of the server infrastructure market and a 10% share of the AI server segment. He believes that the company&rsquo;s AI position can grow to 23% by the end of this year.</p>



<p>Earnings for the company&rsquo;s <a href="https://ir.supermicro.com/news/news-details/2024/Supermicro-Announces-Third-Quarter-Fiscal-Year-2024-Financial-Results/default.aspx">fiscal third quarter</a> included revenue of $3.85 billion, up from $1.28 billion a year ago. Income of $402 million was up from $86 million a year ago.</p>



<p>Even when the slip in stock price in the last two months, SMCI stock is up 188% this year. It continues to get an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>



<h2>Meta Platforms (META)</h2>

The operator of the Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and WhatsApp products, Meta includes roughly half the global population as monthly active users.</p>



<p>Meta is doubling down on its AI and machine learning efforts to optimize its valuable advertising platforms and improve user experience.</p>



<p>Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg&nbsp;describes the company&rsquo;s newly upgraded Meta AI chatbot as &ldquo;now the&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/meta-rolls-upgraded-ai-assistant-201702834.html">most intelligent AI assistant</a>&nbsp;that you can freely use.&rdquo; The AI-assistant software can create images and animations available on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.</p>



<p>Meta also recently&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/meta-debuts-llama-3-latest-160000989.html">introduced</a>&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/techcrunch-minute-metas-llama-3-160052944.html">Llama 3</a>, an large language model that&rsquo;s already getting <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/techcrunch-minute-metas-llama-3-160052944.html">rave reviews</a> compared to its rivals LLM products.</p>



<p>Earnings for the first quarter included $36.4 billion in revenue, up 27% from a year ago. Income was $12.3 billion, up 117%, and earnings per share of $4.71 was up 114% from a year ago.</p>



<p>META stock is up 32% this year and gets an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>



<h2>Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (DJT)</h2>

You don&rsquo;t have to like the politics of former President Donald Trump to buy or sell <strong>Trump Media &amp; Technology</strong> (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/djt-stock-quote/"><strong>DJT</strong></a>) stock. </p>



<p>Truth be told, Trump Media stock is a meme play, with the underlying fundamentals of Trump Media and its Truth Social platform unable to support the company&rsquo;s current stock price.</p>



<p>But you can still make a profit from DJT stock. You just have to ignore the chatter and drama.</p>



<p>First, remember that Truth Social is positioning itself as a platform to amplify suppressed or silenced voices and viewpoints. It may also grow in popularity as X, the company formerly known as Twitter and now operated by Elon Musk, is considering&nbsp;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/new-x-users-may-pay-a-small-fee-6699786/">charging new users a fee</a>&nbsp;to post and respond to posts.</p>



<p>Truth Social is also planning to launch a <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/truth-social-launch-streaming-platform-112400489.html">live TV streaming platform</a> that could help it reach a wider audience.</p>



<p>There are growing reports about growing short interest of DJT stock and the possibility of a short squeeze. I don&rsquo;t think that&rsquo;s a good idea to get involved with, but if you think that Truth Social will grow and be a competitor to X, then <a href="https://investorplace.com/market360/2024/04/ignore-the-drama-the-smart-investors-approach-to-trump-media-stock/">a small investment in DJT stock</a> may make sense.</p>

<h2>Shell (SHEL)</h2>

It has a large footprint in the U.S., where it operates in all 50 states and has over 12,000 gas stations and convenience stores.</p>



<p>It&rsquo;s also investing heavily into electric vehicle infrastructure, with plans to increase the number of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/shell-to-unload-1000-retail-locations-in-pivot-to-ev-charging-141517030.html">EV charging stations</a> it operates from 54,000 to 200,000 by 2030.</p>



<p>Earnings for the first quarter were <a href="https://www.shell.com/investors/results-and-reporting/quarterly-results/_jcr_content/root/main/section_1564161910/simple_copy_copy_cop_22317024/list_copy_1861700816/list_item_copy_114090543/text/links/item0.stream/1714613420300/57656049abf0419e39cae5eb28c2ecc48b362b03/q1-2024-quarterly-press-release.pdf">$7.7 billion</a>, which was solid, but down from $9.6 billion a year ago because of falling gas prices. But with oil prices up 10% from a year ago, those numbers will improve as the price of oil goes up.</p>



<p>Shell also takes care of its shareholders. The company is instituting a share buyback program of $3.5 billion, which is expected to be completed over the next three months. And it already pays a dividend yield of 3.7%.</p>



<p>SHEL stock is up 11% this year and gets an &ldquo;A&rdquo; rating in the Portfolio Grader.</p>

<p>According to a report from Similarweb, the <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/djt-stock-trump-price-today-14259819">monthly active users</a> at Truth Social were down 23% on April when compared to the month prior. The firm also notes that mobile users on the website had decreased by 13%.</p>



<p>That&rsquo;s bad news for DJT stock, which has already been dealing with troubles since going public earlier this year. That includes the <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/05/djt-stock-trump-media-fires-accounting-firm-hires-replacement-after-sec-charges/">loss of its auditor</a> after the firm was found to have submitted fraudulent filings to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).</p>



<p>On top of that, former President Donald Trump continues to be <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-trial-hush-money-stormy-daniels-d8be160e53c8050bf788d7772f483a64">caught up in a lawsuit</a>. This includes allegations that Trump paid hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.</p>

<p>It&rsquo;s no secret <strong>AMC </strong>(NYSE:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amc-stock-quote/"><strong>AMC</strong></a></span>) stock is not doing well right now. It&rsquo;s down 47% year-to-date (<strong>YTD</strong>) and 93% in the last 12 months. Now, AMC is down 94% in the past five years. Its <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/amcs-stock-on-pace-for-biggest-decline-in-a-month-after-preliminary-first-quarter-results-6f2f98e0">stock declined after Q1 results</a> were released last week. This happened despite it exceeding consensus estimates for revenue, adjusted EBITDA, net income and diluted earnings per share (<strong>EPS</strong>).</p>



<p>Nowadays, at-home streaming services offer blockbuster quality films. And major movie studios make their in-theater films available on streaming services much sooner. Plus, attending the movies has become far too expensive at a time when people are budget trimming.</p>



<p>Therefore, plenty of opportunity is on the table for other media companies to benefit. So, instead of buying AMC stock, you should look at these three <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/communications/media/">media stocks</a> to buy instead.</p>



<h2><strong>Sony Group Corp (SONY)</strong></h2>

SONY, led by its bidding group Sony Pictures Entertainment and private equity firm Apollo, offered $26 billion in cash.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Paramount owns several well known channels including Nickelodeon, MTV, CBS and Paramount Pictures. But it has struggled to remain profitable thanks to the decline of cable TV and the underperformance of its streaming service. Sony&rsquo;s offer has strong support from many Paramount shareholders, who would prefer it to the alternative of a <strong>Skydance</strong> merger. </p>



<p>While SONY is down both YTD and in the last 12 months, it is up 70% in the last five years. Considering Sony Group Corp. is involved in many media types like video game software, electronics manufacturing and music, it remains diversified. Thus, this could help protect its overall stock price against major changes in any one sector.</p>



<h2><strong>Reddit (RDDT)</strong></h2>

On Monday, <strong>Bank of America</strong> (NYSE:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/bac-stock-quote/"><strong>BAC</strong></a></span>) <a href="https://in.investing.com/news/reddit-stock-bofa-revists-rddt-after-a-blockbuster-ipo-4170829">raised its target price</a> on Reddit from $45 to $50 per share, maintaining a neutral rating. Then, the company&rsquo;s debut earnings report came out on Tuesday, and the stock climbed 9% to $51.33.</p>



<p><a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/07/reddit-rddt-q1-2024-earnings.html">Revenue increased</a> 48% to $243 million for the first quarter year-over-year (<strong>YOY</strong>). That beat analysts&rsquo; estimates by 14%. Importantly, it reported an ad revenue increase of 39%. However, it showed an overall net loss of $575.1 million. Still, the number of average daily users was 8% higher than expected.</p>



<p>Compare Reddit to the other social media stock that had an IPO this year, <strong>Trump Media &amp; Technology Group</strong> (NASDAQ:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/djt-stock-quote/"><strong>DJT</strong></a></span>). It just had its <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/03/business/trump-media-accounting-firm-charged-fraud/index.html">accounting firm charged with massive fraud</a>. Thus, RDDT definitely looks like a much stronger bet.</p>



<h2><strong>IMAX Corp (IMAX)</strong></h2>

But <strong>IMAX</strong> <strong>Corp </strong>(NYSE:<span><a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/imax-stock-quote/"><strong>IMAX</strong></a></span>) may offer a unique way to see profits in this industry in the future. </p>



<p>The company collected <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/imax-box-office-second-biggest-year-history-oppenheimer-1235865457/">$1.06 billion worldwide in 2023</a>, the second-largest year in its history. Ticket sales were up 24% from 2022. Also, IMAX saw net income of $25 million in 2023, a turnaround from the previous year&rsquo;s loss of $23 million.</p>



<p>Many people now view a trip to the movies as a special treat, with some choosing films in IMAX theaters to enhance viewer experience. For example, in 2023, IMAX was touted as the best way to watch <em>Oppenheimer</em>. The movie was IMAX&rsquo;s biggest earner in 2023, generating $183.2 million from IMAX screens. Also, it pushed the company to its highest-grossing summer ever in 54 countries, including the U.S. and China.&nbsp;</p>



<p>If IMAX can capture this enthusiasm and translate it into partnerships with more theaters and production companies, it could lead to a decidedly profitable future. </p>



<p>While its stock has been down for the last five years, it is up 13% YTD. But considering four of those years were during the pandemic, that&rsquo;s not surprising.&nbsp;Therefore, the future could be bright for the movie industry&rsquo;s brightest screens.</p>
