Altierre's Animation Chip Brings Signage to Life

Share:

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - August 17, 2009) - Altierre Corp., a provider of ultra low power
wireless solutions for retailers, today announced a significant
breakthrough in retail display: Dynamic Messaging, which brings the power
of animation to its line of digital tags and signage. Dynamic Messaging is
the latest addition to Altierre's comprehensive portfolio of proprietary
technology solutions for retailers that have been developed in conjunction
with leading chains and designed for immediate deployment and high ROI.

"The addition of animation to our product line is a very significant
development for retailers," said Altierre Chairman and CEO Sunit Saxena.
"Studies have proven that consumers are far more responsive to changing
images than static images. Paper and digital signage have been limited to
static messaging -- which can easily be tuned out and ignored by shoppers -- until now. Altierre has created a dynamic medium that opens a powerful
new world of hyper-dimensional in-store marketing to retailers."

A renowned study by the Point of Purchase Advertising Institute (POPAI)
found that more than 70 percent of all brand purchase decisions are made
in-store. The study also confirmed that point-of-purchase displays
significantly influence buying decisions. Subsequent research has found
that displays with motion deliver dramatic increases in sales over static
displays. Based on these findings, retailers began placing plasma TV
monitors in stores, but wiring and high capital expense limits the number
of in-store monitors, which in turn limits their relevancy and impact on
shoppers. In contrast, hundreds or even thousands of Altierre's low cost
mobile and battery operated animated signs can be sprinkled around a store,
next to where the products are displayed, on racks, shelf edges, in the
aisles and at point of purchase. "By placing Dynamic Messaging at the point
where critical buying decisions are made by consumers, we are giving
retailers a new medium to impact their revenues and margins," said Saxena.
"This medium allows for messaging that is relevant to consumers and is
always up to date."

This innovation has been made possible thanks to a new display chip created
by Altierre. The new chip harnesses proprietary circuits and algorithms to
allow information to be flashed on a screen or alternating various screens
of information. By providing high-level programmability, the chip has the
capability of handling multiple sequences of animation. Alternate screens
of information could be used for a multitude of purposes such as providing
additional product or sale information to consumers. The chip conserves
battery power, allowing Altierre's display tags to display animation while
maintaining their five-year battery life. This again allows Altierre to be
the first company in the world to provide dot matrix LCD animated
tags/signs with five-year battery life.

"This development again showcases Altierre as a visionary company with
unparalleled technical prowess, and further establishes the company as a
global leader in creating innovative retail technology solutions," said
retail marketing veteran Gary Smith, former senior vice president of
marketing at Safeway who is now CEO of Encore Associates and a member of
Altierre's board of directors.

Altierre's Dynamic Messaging is the only technology of its class with the
capability to bring in-store marketing alive in ways that static paper and
even current e-paper offerings cannot. Other e-paper solutions currently
on the market claim to support only 50,000 image changes spread over the
course of a five-year battery life. However, true animation demands a
minimum of an image change per second -- which requires 86,000 image
changes in one day alone. At that rate other solutions would exhaust their
batteries in less than a day! Altierre is breaking this market open for
retailers by delivering a low-power solution capable of delivering image
changes every second over the full five-year battery life of an Altierre
digital tag or sign.

Altierre has developed a new era of RF-based applications aimed at
enhancing productivity, merchandising and the consumer shopping experience.
Its platform now offers a full suite of infrastructure and customer facing
solutions. The company's digital pricing solution is a revolutionary green
technology that offers the grocery industry the potential to save billions
of sheets of paper currently wasted on price tags and marketing messages.
The eco-friendly system efficiently delivers real-time, chain-wide dynamic
pricing, improves price accuracy, sharply reduces costs and paper waste,
enables targeted communications with customers and employees and creates a
clean-looking paperless environment. Altierre's Sensor Network
applications, beginning with its recently introduced temperature sensors,
further help bring traditional bricks and mortar stores into the digital
age.
