A123 Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: AONE) surged 4.26% to $19.24 in the pre-market session after A123 Systems said today it is forming a joint venture with China's top carmaker SAIC Motor Corp to develop, make and sell complete vehicle traction battery systems for use in hybrid electric and pure electric passenger vehicles and heavy duty truck and bus applications in the People's Republic of China. So far this year, AONE is down over 9.70%.

The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA)(FREE stock trend analysis) has received a $704.4 million U.S. Army contract to build 21 new and 14 remanufactured Ch-47F Chinook helicopters, the Defense Department said on Wednesday. In the pre-market session, BA is down 1% to $54.60.

GeoEye Inc. (NASDAQ: GEOY)(FREE stock trend analysis) fell 7% to $29.50 in after-hour session. GeoEye detected an irregularity in the antenna of its GeoEye-1 satellite and the glitch could hurt its projected 2010 revenue by as much as 10%. In November, GeoEye had forecast 2010 revenue of $310 million to $320 million.

Rio Tinto plc (ADR) (NYSE: RTP)(FREE stock trend analysis) fell 2.50% to $203.78 in the pre-market session after Rio Tinto has made its first sale of iron ore from its mines in Australia to India, potentially opening doors in a major exporter of the steel-making raw material that is busy ramping up its steel capacity.

Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX)(FREE stock trend analysis) on Wednesday announced that Wednesday Time Warner will buy NDTV Imagine Ltd (Imagine) from NDTV Networks Plc, an indirect subsidiary of NDTV Ltd for $126.5 million, further expanding its international reach.

First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR)(FREE stock trend analysis) jumped 2.38% to $140 First Solar forecast after better-than-expected 2010 revenue and said it plans to boost solar module production capacity in Malaysia. First Solar Inc. projects sales to increase by almost $900 million in 2010.
