Elon Musk&#8216;s SpaceX said on Tuesday that the company completed 67 missions using its Falcon launch vehicles as of the end of the second quarter, trailing behind its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/01/36506937/spacex-executives-map-out-challenges-for-ambitious-2024-launch-goals-main-thing-right-now-is">self-set launch targets.</a>
What Happened: The company is looking to launch 144 times in 2024, averaging twelve times per month. 
However, as of the end of Q2, the company has completed only 67 launches, with a whopping 66 launches completed by the company&#8217;s workhorse Falcon 9 vehicle and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39502321/spacex-employs-falcon-heavy-for-first-time-in-2024-to-send-noaas-goes-u-weather-satellite-to-space">one by its Falcon Heavy</a>. The company has delivered about 900 metrics to orbit so far this year, SpaceX said in a post on X on Tuesday.

Considering an average of 12 launches per month, the company is five launches short of its target for 6 months, meaning the company should launch 77 missions in the remaining half to meet its annual launch target. 
In addition to the Falcon missions, SpaceX also launched the Starship twice over the past half. In his most recent estimate from March, CEO Musk said that the company is looking to launch the ambitious launch vehicle, aimed at taking humans back to the moon and Mars for the first time, at least 6 times this year. SpaceX now has to complete 4 test flights in the remaining half to meet its CEO&#8217;s targets. 
Why It Matters: However, the launch numbers are an improvement from SpaceX&#8217;s previous years. 
For the entirety of 2023, SpaceX only completed 96 launches, marking a 57% year-on-year increase, not including two Starship test flights. The company&#8217;s launch numbers have been steadily increasing, with 26 launches in 2020, 31 in 2021, and 61 in 2022.
In the first quarter alone, the company launched 31 missions, trumping China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation&nbsp;(CASC) which had 9 launches, and Russia's&nbsp;Roscosmos&nbsp;which had 5.
As per a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38932200/elon-musk-hopeful-of-spacex-launching-over-90-of-earths-payload-to-orbit-in-2024-nothing-stopping-co">report from analytics firm</a>&nbsp;Bryce Tech, SpaceX launched about 429,125 kgs of spacecraft upmass in Q1, seconded by CASC after launching just 29,426 kgs. SpaceX's American rival&nbsp;United Launch Alliance, meanwhile, launched only 1,285 kgs of spacecraft upmass in the quarter. ULA is a joint venture between&nbsp;Lockheed Martin&nbsp;and&nbsp;Boeing.

Elon Musk's SpaceX Launches 67 Missions In First Half Of 2024, Trailing Own Targets

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/07/39606425/nasdaq-100-notches-record-daily-close-boosted-by-mega-cap-giants-fed-rate-cut-optimism">stock market has got off to a terrific start in the second half, </a>with the S&amp;P 500 closing above the 5,500 mark for the first time ever on Tuesday. Against this backdrop, a wealth manager weighed in on what&#8217;s in store for the remainder of the year.
Risk/Reward Unattractive: The next two weeks have strong bullish seasonality, said Lumida Wealth co-founder Ram Ahluwalia in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The wealth manager pointed to a BofA Securities sell-side indicator that is contrarian in nature, which is extremely bullish when the sell-side is bearish and vice-versa.
The indicator is currently in neutral territory, with a slight bias toward a sell signal, according to BofA, a snapshot of the firm&#8217;s note shared by Ahluwalia showed. But the level still points to healthy price returns of +13% over the next 12 months, he noted
Ahluwalia said at the current juncture, the risk/reward is not as attractive as it was a few months ago. The risk/reward may not be so favorable after tech earnings or going into the Democratic National Convention due to the rise of uncertainty, he said. The DNC is scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
He expects earnings revisions going into the third quarter to be positive and strong.

Undiscounted Factor: Ahluwalia said the market hasn&#8217;t yet priced in a scenario where Democrats post a credible and competitive candidate to President Joe Biden. The incumbent is currently the presumptive Democratic candidate but rumors are adrift about the party floating an alternative following his dismal performance in the first presidential debate held last week. 
&#8220;The optimal move for Dems would be a boring, but decisive non-controversial governor from a swing state &#8211; Pennsylvania or Michigan come to mind,&#8221; Ahluwalia said, adding that California Governor Gavin Newsom is a possibility. If Newsom were to be chosen, it wouldn&#8217;t confer the Democratic party any swing state advantage, he said.
Giving credence to his deduction, the Lumida co-founder pointed out that Newsom was one of the first elected officials to greet China&#8217;s Premier. &#8220;From state-level politics to global stage in one meeting&#8230;,&#8221; he said.
Market Implications: The wealth manager sees a credible competitive Democrat candidate scrambling some of the positioning in the markets. Under such a scenario, he sees downside volatility in the following sectors:

The current regime for one is overwhelmingly pro-clean energy<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/23/08/33883306/the-inflation-reduction-act-turns-1-year-old-biden-says-he-aims-to-rekindle-american-dream">, having enacted the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 </a>through which it invested billions of dollars for tackling the climate crisis and advancing environmental justice. Replacing Biden or a Trump victory may not bode well for clean-energy stocks as a change of guard at the top casts doubt on the continuation of the policies.
As the saying goes, the market hates uncertainty and until it is resolved, the risk of a reversal in trader sentiment will likely persist.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) ended Tuesday&#8217;s session at an all-time high of $549.01, up 0.67%, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174">Benzinga Pro data.</a>

In response, Lee, who is one of the major strategists on Wall Street, admitted that Bitcoin was suffering from bankrupt exchange <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/07/39577189/will-mt-gox-really-dump-9b-in-bitcoin-on-the-market">Mt. Gox's planned disbursement of $9 billion </a>worth of coins starting this month.&nbsp;
However, he believed the market could ascend once the sell-offs are completed in July.
"If I was investing in crypto, knowing that one of the biggest overhangs is going to disappear in July, I think it&#8217;s a reason to expect a sharp rebound in the second half," Lee noted.&nbsp;

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/06/39541774/heres-how-betting-odds-changed-financial-markets-fared-following-first-presidential-debate-as-bi">first presidential debate </a>held last Thursday has opened the pandora&#8217;s box about President Joe Biden&#8217;s age and mental acuity and new poll results released Monday may not augur well for the incumbent.
Rising Discontent: Fifty-four percent of voters surveyed in a nationwide poll said Biden should be replaced as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election. The <a href="https://www.suffolk.edu/-/media/suffolk/documents/academics/research-at-suffolk/suprc/polls/national/2024/7_2_2024_national_marginals_embargoed_2.pdf?la=en&amp;hash=ABAFA7F15270D95BED9D3AF3AE64775DA6C8886C">results</a> are based on a survey of 1,000 registered voters nationwide by Suffolk University/USA Today between June 28 and June 30. The margin of sampling error was +/-3.1 percentage points.
Incidentally, voters are not enthusiastic about Biden&#8217;s presumptive Republican rival either. Fifty-one percent of voters said Donald Trump should be replaced as the GOP nominee, the poll found. The pollster said the data underlines the widespread discontent with the current two major party nominees.
The clamor for replacing Biden as the Democratic party nominee is growing louder even among his party members. More than four in ten Democrats wanted Biden to be replaced. But only 14% of Republicans and 12% of Trump supporters said the former president should be replaced on the party ticket.
Nearly half of the voters from both parties agreed that Trump won the debate held on June 27, while a more modest 28% of Biden supporters said the president won the debate.
Mental sharpness was cited by most voters while discussing the debate performance. While Biden critics used words like &#8220;confused&#8221; and &#8220;incoherent,&#8221; those supporting Trump used terms like &#8220;coherent/articulate&#8221; and &#8220;cognizant/present.&#8221;
The debate also solidified support for Trump, with 31% saying his debate performance made them more likely to support him. Only 10% said the same about Biden. Notably, 9% of all voters said the debate made them more likely to back a third-party candidate.

The Matchups: The survey also found that Trump has built up a slight lead against Biden following the first debate. Forty-one percent of the respondents went with Trump as their presidential choice, three percentage points more than the 38% support Biden received. The lead, however, was within the poll&#8217;s margin of error.
An earlier survey done in May showed that both were deadlocked at 37%-37%.
The June survey showed 8% support for independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr., while the other third-party candidates were backed by 3% of the voters. Eight percent of overall voters were undecided.
Trump&#8217;s position as an alternative choice also improved, with 25% picking him as their second choice, more than the 17% support Biden received for the same.

Those still undecided were concerned more about inflation/economy (46%), abortion (15%) and immigration (15%).
&#8220;This poll tells us that voters are dug in on both sides,&#8221; said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center. He said that the Biden campaign must be concerned about the defection of second-choice votes of third-party voters, who now favor Trump instead of Biden.
&#8220;The Biden strategy all along was that as third-party candidacies evaporated, those voters would rotate to Biden. This research suggests the tables have turned and the Stein/West/RFK voters he may have been counting on in November have left him after Thursday's debate,&#8221; he added.
